Where I got it
After listening to another episode of Adore Beauty’s Beauty IQ podcast, I was sold on what Hannah has been using on her hair. She was using the Goldwell Kerasilk Control range and she loved the mask! I have been doing keratin treatment on my hair for at least 4 years and it has been a life-saver for me, even though it doesn’t make it dead straight, but I can grow it long and healthy without looking too frizzy, healthy and dull. The only thing I need to be ware of is the use of SLS in my haircare. So I will need to avoid any sulfates, otherwise it will strip away the keratin faster than it naturally wears away.
I did some research on this Kerasilk range and from what I see in the ingredients list, the shampoo in the Control range has SLS and I was really puzzled. I DM’d Goldwell on IG and they didn’t really give me a definitive answer, basically telling me that the shampoo works well with “their” keratin treatment. It’s probably a formulation thing between their specific keratin treatment and their at-home products. Anywho, I didn’t want to risk it so I didn’t end up getting the shampoo or conditioner, but I got their Intensive Smoothing Mask and Smoothing Fluid. They also have a couple of other products from this line, but I want to try these to see if I like them.
I picked these up from Vivo.co.nz, and they have good value packs if you want to get more of their products and the customer service was superb. The mask was $47 and the fluid was $41 and they do free delivery!
What I got
These are the Goldwell Kerasilk Control Smoothing Fluid (75ml) and Intensive Smoothing Mask (200ml). It’s got keratin for strength and liquid silk for softness, and is made specifically for unruly hair.
Smoothing Fluid (75ml). Formulated with powerful Keratin and Liquid Silk to smooth unruly and frizzy hair. It dramatically smooths and tames unwanted frizz that’s out of control. It Provides heat protection so your hair is soft and shinny throughout styling.

As the name suggests, it’s kind of a big deal when it comes to softening and smoothing – exactly what’s required for frizz-prone hair. For those of us who need help controlling unruly hair, it’s a must. Think deep conditioning, added shine, and humidity protection.

How I find it
The mask is really thick and creamy and I’m so impressed that it comes with a special spatula to scoop out the product! The scoop is curved like a c-shape so you can scoop out from the hard to reach places! I only need about the size of a walnut of this mask to cover my mid-length and ends. Then I just clip my hair up for a few minutes while I clean my body and wash my face. I don’t take long showers and I hate having to go back into the shower or sink to wash of hair masks so the maximum I put on this hair mask is probably 2 mins. It rinses off easily with water and it does leave a little bit of slippery feeling on the hair.
I use the smoothing fluid every time I wash my hair. I towel dry my hair and then use about 3-4 pumps of the smoothing fluid and apply all over my hair, about 3cm from my roots because I don’t want too much build up on my scalp. It gets absorbed into my hair quickly and I just blow dry. Sometimes I will add another pump to smooth out any flyaways once I’ve done drying my hair.
Overall
I really like the hair mask, even though I couldn’t leave it on for 10 mins as recommended, but leaving it for 2 minutes still gives me really good results. My hair is quite frizzy at the ends and around my face where the baby hairs grow, but I don’t feel this mask does anything to control frizz at all. It is a hydrating and moisturising mask at most, and it just helps by making the hair more manageable and smooth.
The smoothing fluid doesn’t give a lot of control and I was a little bit underwhelmed by it. My previous hair serum product was the Kerastase 8hr Night serum which was comparatively much better. This fluid provides more control if you apply it over dry hair rather than damp hair. But at least it is not greasy and sticky, it also smells very nice.
