Where I got it
I usually get my Chanel makeup from my local Farmers because they are the closest and most convenient for me. They also do Farmers club points. But this time I got these at the Chanel Fragrance and Beauty Boutique in CBD on Galway Street. It was my first time shopping there and the sales staff there were very friendly and helpful. I wasn’t intended to buy anything at first, but I did want to see more of the new launches because the Chanel counter at my local Farmers did not have all the new products.
I tested out the new 2 Rouge Allure Laque shades, 2 new Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme shades, as well as their 2 new Eyeshadow quads. I didn’t really bother looking at their liquid eyeshadows because I seldom use liquid eyeshadows and the new mascara because I’m not really into coloured mascaras.
So I picked up two new lip products as well as a pair of Chanel sunglasses! This lipstick here was $64, and we were given a handful or skincare and makeup samples as well as a perfume sample.
What I got
This is the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Extrême in 134 Êclosion. CHANEL pushes back the limits of matte with ROUGE ALLURE VELVET EXTRÊME. An elegant and sophisticated lipstick with an extremely matte second-skin finish. Its innovative texture offers an extra-matte makeup result with intense and long-wear colour (8 hours*). The iconic ROUGE ALLURE packaging is reinvented in a matte black version. Matte has never had such allure.
How I find it
This is my very first matte lipstick from Chanel and when I tested the shade in-store, I wasn’t very interested at first because it looked really dry and thick straight from the bullet. However, when I blended it out with my fingertips, it looked really pretty! Like an ombré colour, like a blotted effect and I was sold on the soft pinky red shade.
The Velvet Extrême formula is not something new, it has been out for years, but they often launch new, limited edition shades. I did a little research of this collection and apparently not the entire collection has been launched all over the world. The two eyeshadow quads have not been released in the US at all,m. Instead, they relaunched two existing shades instead which looked quite similar and had similar shade-story. The new quads were launched in Asia (including Australia and NZ), Europe and the UK as far as I know.
Overall
It’s not something I would go for on a daily basis, because I love wearing lip balms or tinted lip balms or something that has a moisturising effect on my lips, but when I’m feeling a little fancy, a little higher maintenance, I would wear this blended out with soft intensity. I think it would look great for brunch, church, meetings, events, etc. Whenever you want to look more sophisticated and chic without looking too made-up or bold.
You can definitely wear this in full intensity, but make sure you exfoliate your lips beforehand and really moisturise it so you don’t get flakey bits. It does transfer, so that high intensity pigment can run off and you can left with a stain of colour. It’s not the best for reapplying on top of faded lipstick, so I would remove faded lipstick with a tissue or apply a lip balm over the top and then remove with a tissue. Then reapply lipstick.
I can appreciate that this is not the most moisturising and comfortable formula for the lips, but I like to wear this as a tint on the lips that I blend out instead of straight from the bullet. It is a high maintenace lipstick that requires care to apply and needs to be reapplied when faded or dried out. Nonetheless, it gives a really beautiful blotted look.
