Where I got it
I knew about the launch of this collection from influencers I follow on YouTube. It was launched in late February in the US I think and it arrived in New Zealand in the first week of March. The lady in the Chanel beauty boutique I am in contact with sent me a photo of the products, and I immediately ordered two items from her. The same week, it is Farmer’s beauty week and they were doing double points for every brand so I knew I would get a good deal out of Chanel. I dropped in a day before Beauty Week started and swatched some of the items. Then I also picked up a few more items for the sales lady to put away so I can pay for them the next day.
So I ordered one Baume Essentiel stick and one Rouge Coco Flash from the Chanel Boutique store. Then I also bought one more Baume Essential stick, one Rouge Coco Flash and one Le Vernis nail polish from Farmers.
What I got
The items I picked up from the Perles Et Éclat De Chanel collection are two Baume Essentiel Multi-use Glow Sticks in Printanier and Perlescent, also both new shades of the Rouge Coco Flash in 154 Douceur and 156 Delicatesse. Also, shade 889 Perle Blanche of the Le Vernis nail polish.
Baume Essentiel Multi-use Glow Stick (Printanier and Perlescent) ($85 each, 8g). A moisturising highlighting balm to dab onto the face for discreet radiance effect. Its texture melts onto the skin and reflects the light. BAUME ESSENTIEL creates a glimmering effect that sculpts the face, enhancing both sophisticated makeup and the most natural looks.
Rouge Coco Flash (154 Doucer and 156 Delicatesse) ($64 each, 3g). In the blink of an eye, ROUGE COCO FLASH shows its true colours through its transparent cap. In a stroke, it applies easily over the lips with its glide-on, melt-away and ultra-hydrating texture which transforms into a shiny oil on contact with the lips for a sensation of absolute comfort. In a flash, it offers an intense high-shine result, owing to a thin coating and glossy oil selected for their ability to reflect the light.
Le Vernis Nail Polish (889 Perle Blanche) ($50 for 13ml). LE VERNIS by CHANEL: A long-wear, protective nail polish with lasting shine designed to make vibrant colours dazzle. Long-wearing, extra-fine and ultra-shiny, each coat offers an absolutely even and lacquered result.
How I find it
First of all, I will share my thoughts on the products I bought and then share some photos and first impressions of the products I only swatched and have not purchased.
So out let’s talk about my first experience with the Baume Essentiel Multi-use Glow Stick. These are my first ever glow sticks from Chanel and they are not brand new products. Chanel had these for as long as I have been using their makeup products and I have swatched these previously. I couldn’t decide which one to use because I thought they were really sheer and I often prefer a powder highlighter. However, with this launch, I decided to give these a go and watched reviews of how others like to use them. They are a glossy type of highlighter sticks to create that dewy look on the skin instead of a shimmery glow. I decided to pick up Printanier and Perlescent because one is pinky toned and the latter is pearly white with shimmers. I thought they were quite different and I would like to try two different looks and review them.
From the swatches, Printanier was really sheer but gives this dewy, glossy look to the skin. I have attached photos below of the swatches I did in-store (store lighting), and at home (natural lighting). I also tried Rosée from their permanent collection and it is a slightly deeper pink compared to Printanier, so if you already have Rosée, then you don’t need to get Printanier. As for Perlescent, it is quite a different finish to the existing shades. It has a cool-white base with silver micro shimmers. You definitely don’t want to go anywhere near this if you do not like glitter and if you have a lot of texture on your cheekbones. You only need a little bit of product and don’t layer this, otherwise, the white base will overpower your skin tone and look really unnatural.
Let’s hop into the Rouge Coco Flash, I picked up both of the new LE shades – 154 Douceur and 156 Delicatesse. I absolutely love the Coco Flash formula when I bought my first one last year. It feels like a lip balm and does not make my lips peel or crack, it doesn’t build up on my lips and the glossiness of the lip balm is just so wearable for every day. Anyway, initially I decided to only get 156 Delicatesse because it has a bit of colour and not just a sheer pink that probably won’t show up on my lips, but after watching Michelle Wang’s review on 154 Douceur and swatching it personally in-store, I thought I could give it a go (not fully convinced until I try it on my lips).
156 Delicatesse is a sheer pink with a hint of red undertone. It looks really beautiful on the lips and looks very close to my favourite 132 Flushed. However, it does contain silver and red micro-shimmers, and 132 Flushed does not contain any shimmers. 154 Douceur is a sheer pearlescent pink with a hint of gold micro-shimmers. It glides on the lips like a lip balm and the finish is super glossy and shiny. I was unable to detect any pigments on my lips so I would use this as a glossy lip balm.
Overall
I think the collection is really pretty and I am quite happy with the products I bought. From the items I purchased, I would say that this collection is leaning quite sheer. Printanier, 154 Douceur and the Le Vernis were all really sheer to give that pearlescent glow with minimal pigment. The eyeshadow quad that I did not purchase also contains 2 sheer shades.
The following photos are of the products I did not purchase. I swatched these in store so the lighting I could really control. The Perles De Lumiere is a collector’s item and the shade is a pretty beige/gold shade.
The eyeshadow quad (Les 4 Ombres) was something I thought would surprise me if I see it in real life, but once again it did not pull on my heartstrings. I honestly have not been interested in any of Chanel quads and this one was underwhelming as well. All 3 lighter shades were really sheer and the two “highlight” shades hardly show up on my skin. It definitely is not something I would go for even if I was gifted the palette. The texture is nice, but you still can’t pry my hands off my Natasha Denona palettes just yet.
And lastly the Stylo Ombré et Contour, I would actually give this a go in the future, but at the moment, I’m not purchasing. It is a really smooth eyeshadow in a stick form. The shade I swatched was Burgundy Perle which is quite a dark shade. I’m not sure how long-wearing this would be seeing that it is a creamy formula and my eyelids can be a bit oily and it might transfer.
