Where I got it
It’s been a while since I last purchased anything from Clinique and most of the time that I do, I wait for either a gift with purchase offer of double points. Better yet, gift with purchase AND double points! Farmers did a quick 4-day double points in early May, I guess for Mother’s Day?
Anyway, so I bought their new Micellar Cleansing Milk and their new Blackheads Solution 7 Day Deep Pore Cleans & Scrub, and got this as a free gift. I was able to choose from their Moisture Surge version or this one for “more mature” skin. I went for this one because I have already tried most of the Moisture Surge products and I felt that my skin would like something more than just hydrating.
What I got
This is the Clinique gift with purchase for the month of May. This gift set contains a 30ml Take The Day Off Makeup Remover, a 30ml All About Clean Liquid Facial Soap Mild, a 7ml Smart Custom-repair Serum, a 15ml Custom-repair Night Moisturiser, 15ml Smart Clinical Multi-directional Age Transformer, a 3.5ml Big Impact Mascara and a Dramatically Different Lipstick Shaping Lip Colour in 04 Canoodle.
How I find it
I won’t be reviewing every single item here in regards to trying it out and comment on efficacy, etc. Instead, I will just give an overview of the products in this set and whether I have tried some of these before, etc.
So let’s start with the Makeup Remover. I have a couple of these at home and I love them. I used to keep these for travel, but since I am not travelling much, I have been using these travel sizes at home. I have not purchased any eye makeup remover for maybe 2 years? These are quick and effective!
Next, let’s talk about the Liquid Facial Soap mild. Part 1 of their famous 3-step system, the cleanser has been my most favourite in the system (hated the Clarifying lotion). It is a no-frills, uncomplicated second cleanser. I used to go for the combination/oily skin version, but it felt a little stripping, so this mild one for dry combination might be a better alternative. They also launched two new micellar milk cleansers in late 2020 I believe, and I’ve just purchased one to try out.
Moving on, the Smart Custom-repair Serum was something that caught my eye when it first came out (a few years now I think). It was marketed as one of their more potent serums for anti-ageing. I didn’t get up trying the serum, so this would be a good start. I don’t really hear people talk about this product a lot, so I’m guessing it’s just so-so?
In the same line of the Clinique Smart range, we have the Custom-repair Night Moisturiser. This moisturiser is supposed to plump, firm, hydrate and brighten the skin. The corresponding day cream also has SPF15.
The last skincare products we have here is the Smart Clinical Multi-directional Age Transformer. This range gives me the mature-skin vibes where it is a step up above the Clinique Smart. This range focuses on lifting, rejuvenation, sculpting, etc. The purple packaging stands out and is rather prestige-looking. This is the Revolumize version, and it does come in Resculpt version as well.
As for the two makeup items, I want too thrilled about them because I don’t really use Clinique’s makeup and I am super picky with my mascara. I have previously used Clinique Big Impact Mascara and it smudged and melted on my eye area. I will be giving this away without opening it. I was going to give away the lipstick as well because I have tried Clinique lipsticks before and they are plain boring (IMO) and I really don’t like that shade of green of the bullet. I opened up the lipstick to check out what kind of colour it was, I was surprised to see that it has a moisturising core. I found out that this is their Dramatically Different Lipstick, which has a “3D pearl centre core”, so it is essentially skincare for the lips as well. The colour was quite easy to wear so I decided to keep it and give it a go.
