Burberry Icon Stripe Wool Cape

Where I got it

I ordered this on the MyTheresa app on 7th May. I have ordered from them a couple of times previously and their app is easy to use, they offer really fast shipping (pre-covid days), packaging is really top-notch, they also have really good discounts from time to time. If you are looking at purchasing luxury items, check out a few sites because I was able to find this same piece on Luisa Via Roma, but it was selling for more than what I paid for in MyTheresa even when it is at full price.

I was able to grab this on 30% off during their Daily Candy promo. I believe they do this promo a few times a year, but correct me if I am wrong. I don’t keep my eye on these sites all the time, only when I feel like treating myself. I also use Karma for cash back and keeping eye on items I want. The wool cape is €540 (full priced) and I got it for 30% off during the Daily Candy promo (€378 = NZD$661.56). At that same time, I see this on Luisa Via Roma selling for NZD$1488! They offered free shipping for the Daily Candy promo as well.

What I got

This is the Burberry Icon Stripe Wool Cape (Flaxseed as per the Burberry website). It is 100% wool and made in Italy. The wool cape measures 130 x 130cm. “The cape has become a favoured silhouette for Riccado Tisci’s Burberry, and its latest iteration comes lined in the label’s Icon Strip pattern. Striking the perfect balance between coat and comfort blanket, this cozy piece is made from pure wool. It’s oversized shape is finished with an elegant handkerchief hem.”

Packaging and shipping

So I ordered the cape on 7th May and I received an email telling me the item has been packed and sent off on 11th May from Germany. I was also advised, on the next day, by DHL that my delivery will be delayed, but did not indicate why or for how long. So I patiently waited and checked the tracking code once a day. One thing I was a little annoyed with is that the MyTheresa app did not have any indication of shipping information or tracking links. I finally got ymy delivery on 18th May which wasn’t too bad I think especially during Covid and it was all the way from Germany.

Material and size

The wool cape was really neatly folded inside the box with tissue paper all around it. The cape does not have any pockets, buttons, zips, etc. It is merely just a large piece of fabric with fringed edges. I was expecting a thicker and heavier cape, but it was quite lightweight so I can definitely wear this in fall or added on top of an outfit when it gets too chilly. The wool material is quite creased after being folded inside the box, but after a few days of hanging from a coat-hanger in my wardrobe, the creases soften.

Texture

The cape is a decent size and I would say it is slightly too big for me (I am 156cm). However, it would work great as a light blanket if I needed to use it as such. As you can see from the photos below, how long the cape is on me, just touching the top of my knee, but since the material is quite light, it did not feel bulky or heavy.

Patterned side

I wore it with a thin black knit top for the first time on a shopping trip in CBD and it was a crisp autumn day. There was a bit of sun and some clouds, a light breeze so the cape kept me warm without feeling stuffy. I wore it to the Dior boutique because I was going in to try on some waist belts. I intended to purchase a new belt to wear over jackets, over dresses, and of course, over this cape.

It draped around the body beautifully and looked so good with my new belt. Can you guess which belt I went for?

Overall, I love teaming this cape with some skinny jeans in either no particular colour, but I prefer either grey, pale blue or black. Then I like to wear something neutral and plain on the inside. When it gets cold, I like to wear a turtle-neck, if it is not too cold, I would wear something like I did above – a v-neck thin knit. There is plenty of pattern on the cape so it would be best not to clash with more patterns (at least that’s not the kind of look I want to go for).

I absolutely love this cape. The material, the colour, the pattern, it’s soft and it’s not heavy. Hopefully, it won’t pill easily and I would be able to look after the material and not ruin it.
