Where I got it
I know that these eyeshadow sticks are not new products, but I have actually never tried these at all, not even swatched them once. However, recently, I watched a video of someone talking about these and I decided to have a look while I was in the store. I tried a couple of shades and I was looking for something that I could use as a base colour, either matte or shimmery, but preferred to be neutral and light/medium tone. I ended up picking up two shades for $49 each. I also went online to look for some of the shades that I wanted to buy, but were out of stock in stores. Meccabeauty.co.nz has even less options as there are only around 4 shades available online.
What I got
These are the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Nude Rose and Sunrise (1.64g). These versatile and easy to use shadow sticks can be layered under or over eye shadows and used all over the lid or around the lash line for a smokey liner effect. The smooth and creamy texture glides comfortably and easily on the eyelid with maximum blendability for an endless array of looks. Water and crease-resistant, these velvety colours last all day long with a 12-hour wear formula. Available in a variety of finishes from matte to shimmer. These products have been ophthalmologist and dermatologist tested.
How I find it
When I tried the shades on the back of my hand, I was quite happy with the pigmentation and the creaminess of the eyeshadow sticks. When I finished watching and was ready to wipe off the swatches, I used a little bit of eye makeup remover on a cotton round and I had to use a few wipes and some pressure to remove everything. I knew at that moment, these are going to be really long-lasting.
I find myself always reaching for these when I want a beautiful wash of colour, but minimal effort. Absolutely minimal, I didn’t even have to use a brush. I just run the colour over my eyelids and then blend with my fingertips. These are definitely be used as a one-and-done eyeshadow look. If you want to, you can use these as a base colour and work to blend it out perfectly with a brush. If I am on the run, I just blend it with my fingertips and it will never look messy or patchy.
The two shades I picked up were quite similar and they can also be used together. I was expecting the Nude Rose would be lighter in colour than Sunrise, but in fact, Sunrise seemed more golden and Nude Rose has more of a copper tone to it. Whenever I use these shadow sticks, I made sure my eyelid area is clean and generally not oily. Then I just run the stick over the entire eye area and then blend it out. I let that dry down for at least a minute while I do my other makeup before I curl my lashes and apply mascara.
Overall
These eye colour sticks are so convenient and they are so budge-proof! If I have time, I would apply an eyeshadow primer so that the colour would be more vibrant. If I use any eyeshadow over this base, the colour on top would last as long as the base colour. I always made sure I blend the colour out soon after I lay down the colours before it dries down, otherwise it would be a little difficult to move. I tried to applied more product over the stick, but once it dries down, it was a little difficult to build intensity.
I love both of these shades and I would definitely purchase more shades, maybe a matte taupe or nude shade to act as an eyeshadow base, and possibly some more shimmery shades.
