Where I got it
It was only about a week ago that I was looking through BeautyHeroe’s IG for the items in the July Discovery Box. I learned that it was Lilfox and I was quite intrigued, because I have never tried the brand, but have heard about it. On top of that, these two are brand new products from the brand! This box contains 2 brand new products with a value of USD$266, but you get both products for only USD$77.90 (including shipping to NZ) which is approximately NZD$110. My credit card was charged on 27th June and my items arrived on 16th July. Same thing with all subscription boxes, you can sign up to get these on a monthly subscription, 3-monthly, etc. I like to go by one-off boxes to see if I like the contents. However, that means that I am paying just a little more than a subscription (about $13), but I could make sure I am getting items I want to try and skip boxes that I don’t want.
Side note: the delivery of these boxes are quite hit and miss. Last month’s box arrived at the last week of June, but this month it arrived in the middle of July. I imagine the shipping is really unpredictable during the on-going pandemic. I’m not in a hurry to get these boxes anyway. Anyway, let’s get to the items in this month’s box!
What I got
For the month of July, we are discovering the brand Lilfox for the Beauty Heroes Box. This month’s colorful duo-one unicorn purple and one electric pink- are the perfect skin complement. Together, they relax and energize, plump and polish, deliver instant glow and long lasting hydration. Just a scoop of Marshmallow Poof contains professional-grade levels of active ingredients to deliver an alternative (or complement) to Botox and other procedures. And the Acid Glow flash mask takes your skin from lackluster to lit in under 5 minutes. LILFOX proves yet again that imagination and intelligence are a potent pair.
Marshmallow Poof ($148 for 50ml). Marshmallow Poof, our Hero product, is abundant with a 15% concentration of 5 unique cell communicating peptides and offers a needle-less, painless alternative to wrinkle filling, line freezing solutions. The cocktail of neurotransmitter peptides is shown to work effectively and painlessly to give you the sense of relaxed muscle tension, tighten the skin’s appearance and leave it looking revitalized and firm. In the formula you’ll find shiitake mushroom extract that supports the peptides in their muscle relaxing function, superoxide dismutase, a second-generation antioxidant that synergistically boosts the other antioxidants in the formula such as edelweiss. Purslane, used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to boost circulation helps to activate the niacinamide vitamin B-3 and tetrahexyldecyl vitamin C. Crushed malachite powder offers up its wealth of essential minerals and nutrients for a complete formula that goes on like a dream and smells like you’ve landed in LILFOX heaven.

How I find it
Thinking about last month’s box, we had a facial oil and a night emulsion, both products focus more on nourishing, repair and moisturising. This month, we have an acid product and a peptide lotion. There are no doubling up with the products essentially. So let’s talk about the Acid Glow first. This is an acid peel product, so it is a wash-off mask.
As part of my nighttime skincare routine, I would use this probably once a week after cleansing. I like to use about 4-5 pumps of this acid peel all over my face. I like to use a good layer so that my skin is evenly covered. Acid Glow has a gel-lotion like texture and spreads easily. I do feel a tingle around where I have breakouts, but overall my skin has taken it well with no redness or irritation. You can leave it on for 30 seconds or up to 5 minutes if you want a deeper exfoliation. I would leave it on for about 3 minutes mostly. Remember to use sunscreen with at least SPF30 every morning (whether you use acid or not).
After washing the mask off, or just after cleansing and a hydrating mist I like to use about 2 pumps of the Marshmallow Poof all over my face. It smells of jasmine and it’s not my favourite scent, to be honest. I love jasmine tea, but that kind of jasmine is totally different to this one. Maybe it is a different variety of jasmine? Anyway, the pretty blue colour is nice to look at, but it fades almost immediately when you spread it out. The scent does linger on for at least 15-20mins, but it is bearable. The lotion is moisturising, but not heavy. It feels light on the skin and it’s not sticky.
Overall
I am very delighted to try Lilfox products and would love to try more because I really quite enjoy these two newbies. I was a little anxious about the Acid Glow because I have reduced the use of acid peels after using a little too much too often, it was wrecking my skin barrier. I stepped back from even using my HG Paula’s Choice BHA liquid. I focused on using peptides, vitamin C, hydration serums, and Tretinoin. I still use enzymatic exfoliators and just the odd AHA/BHA maybe once every 2 weeks. Now that my skin is really stable, I want to put back in a little bit more acids because I have been experiencing a bit of congestion around my jawline.
Acid Glow came in at the right time and I love how it contains both AHA and BHA as well as hyaluronic acid. It i s nourishing and exfoliating at the same time. My skin has tolerated this very well with no sensitivity after each use, but I really do need to be conscious of using this maximum two times a week.
On the other hand, I am not as excited about the Marshmallow Poof, mostly because of the jasmine scent. I am usually quite OK with scent and gentle fragrance in my skincare, my skin doesn’t freak out. But besides the scent, I couldn’t really say how effective this is as I have yet to see any filling or lifting effects. I suspect that I will need to at least use up this bottle to see improvements. It does moisturise my skin, but I already have moisturisers that do the same thing with a scent that I really enjoy.
Anyway, I will definitely keep using these two products and report back on my IG, hopefully in an empties post to give you a final review. So make sure you follow me there (@kittiemui)! In the meantime, I am looking forward to seeing what the next box contains!
