Where I got it
I first saw this on the Mecca Beauty website and decided to try out the shades in store. I have not purchased an Hourglass product for a while and I have completely forgotten that their products are pretty expensive. I saw the price $48 or something on the stand, but it was actually for the eye primer, not this blush. When I rocked up to pay, she said “that would be $78, thank you”. I was a little surprised, but almost immediately knew right away $48 was too good to be true for HG products. I paid for it and left, then I went home. To be honest, I have paid more money for a blush or highlighter that contains less than 6g of product before, but it just caught me off guard I suppose. Anyway, let’s get to the review…
What I got
This is the Hourglass Vanish Blush Stick in Devoted (6g). Swipe on this vegan cream-to-powder blush for the ultimate flush of natural colour. Blending seamlessly into the skin, it’s triangular tip allows for an even application of product as it follows the contours of the cheek. – Meccabeauty.co.nz. 5 shades in total.
How I find it
I have not used a blush stick in a while because I generally prefer a pressed powder blush or even a cream blush. The fact that I have to run the blush stick directly over my face with foundation makes me cringe just a little. Otherwise, I will tap my fingertips on the blush and then apply it on my face. I would also use a dense brush directly to the blush to pick up the product, then tap and sweep on my cheeks.
I love the shade, it is a neutral warm pink that looks really natural. It looks great on fair to medium skintones, but I’m not too sure how it would look on deeper skintones. The fine cream texture does not accentuate pores or lines and does not look cakey on the cheeks area. It doesn’t give a sheen finish but a natural looking flush. You can use a blush topper over the top with a hint of shimmer if you wish, otherwise this is not a dead matte finish on the skin.
Overall
I really love the shade of this blush and how it works so well on a minimal makeup look. It has pigment, but also looks seamless on the skin, even when you are not wearing a full face of makeup or foundation. I find that sometimes when I am wearing just a tinted moisturiser or a low coverage BB cream, puttin on a powder blush looks really out of place. Like I am missing something underneath that blush. But with this cream blush, I feel like I can wear it without a flawless base makeup. The only thing is that it is quite a pricey cream blush, and I am sure there is a budget-friendly alternative out there.
