Aromatherapy Associates Discovery Bath & Shower Oil Collection

Where I got it

It was after the Hydration Heroes Edit Mintd Box (November 2020) that I fell in love with the Aromatherapy Associates Rose Bath and Shower Oil. It smells amazing and is so concentrated. So much so that I decided to try more from the brand. Unfortunately, the brand does not ship to New Zealand. bought this on NZSale for NZD$104.50. I later found out that it came through from Strawberrynet.com, which I have a long-term account with and I would have had better discount purchasing from them directly. Also More Than Skin spa in Auckland also stocks some of Aromatherapy Associates products because their official website does not ship internationally.

Anyway, I really fell in love with the Rose Bath and Shower Oil so I had to try more and also restock when I am finished. The Rose scent does not come in “well-being” sets, but you can get this scent in a shower oil, candle, clay mask and an exfoliator. There are 10 other bath and shower oil scents for different needs. I couldn’t decide which one to try and a full-sized bottle would be a serious committment to something I didn’t even know if I would love the scent. So I decided to try this Discovery Collection which is a 10-bottle single-use bath and shower oil.

What I got

This is the Aromatherapy Associates Discovery Bath & Shower Oil Collection (10x3ml). If you’re new to Aromatherapy, it can be hard to know where to begin. The best place to start is with our Miniature Discovery Collection, a selection of ten Bath & Shower Oils in our favourite essential oil blends. Your body is incredibly sophisticated and will tell you what it needs. Once you’ve received your Miniature Discovery collection, take the lids off all the bottles, you will naturally be drawn to what you need, you will probably find you have a small group you’re drawn to at first, and can narrow down from there.

Deep Relax – Exhausted and need to sleep. Ease into sublimely relaxing aromas of earthy Vetivert, soothing Camomile and comforting Sandalwood. How I find it

I absolutely love going to a spa, but I am really time-poor and just don’t have a spare hour to relax at a spa. The one thing I love the most about going to a spa is the aromatherapy. From the scents used in the room to the massage oil used on the body. The massage is obviously lovely, but I love love love walking out after a relaxing massage smelling wonderful. However, I have not really explored aromatherapy oils for at-home use. That is until I received a bottle of the Rose Bath and Shower Oil from Aromatherapy Associates. Their products are high quality, the scents are concentrated and really beautiful. They are so long-lasting that you can continue to smell it in your towels and clothes the day after.

Each little bottle is supposed to be enough for a single use – either in the shower or in the bath. What you do is get undressed, pour the oil into your palms and then just apply it all over the body. The body oil is very fluid so it will run and I always do it inside the shower or bath so that I don’t drip everywhere and make a hazard. It doesn’t feel like a body oil that spreads easily, but it is a little thick and sticks to your skin immediately. I seriously prefer a pump so it’s easier to use, but of couse the glass bottle is more sophisticated and chic.

Anyway, once it is on your body, you just turn the water on and let the water run over you. If you prefer a bath, just step into the bath and relax. The oil will disperse into the water, into the air and just transform the whole room into a spa experience. I would highly recommend if you do have a bath and have time for a bath, to use it in the bath if you want to fully relax. It gives much better value because the oil stay in the bath water instead of the shower it just goes down the drain straight away.

Now, with this type of bath and shower oil, it is not an emulsifying shower oil. What that means is that it doesn’t not turn into a milk when in contact with water and it will stay on the skin as a layer of oil if you don’t wash it off with a cleanser. So the instructions from Aromatherapy Associates recommends to cleanse as usual after enjoying the oil. Usually, I just use an intimate wash to my lady parts and my feet because these are the areas I think really need to be clean, and then I would leave the oil on my skin and just pat dry. If I do want to use a body wash to wash it all off, I will use a fragrance-free or very minimal fragrance body wash.

Overall

I was able to make about 3 uses out of each bottle, hence the aroma is dialed down significantly and the oil doesn’t spread all over my body. I usually focus on my upper body and torso area and not my legs because I prefer to save on my product instead of spreading it down my legs where I won’t be able to smell it anyway.

The concentrated oil smells a little different directly from the bottle than on the body or in the shower. Overall, I did enjoy all of the scents and whilst they are all somewhat similar to one another, there are specific notes that stands out. I’m not sure of the aromatherapeutic effects on the mind and the body, but it definitely makes me happy to use one in the shower and I always look forward to using it when I shower.

I have already purchased full size bottles of some of these because More Than Skin was going a lockdown special where any purchase over $200 from them, I would get the Moments To Pause set which is a set of 3 roller-balls, 10ml each, in Revive Morning, De-Stress Mind and Deep Relax in a velvet pouch. I love roller balls for on-the-go. I have the Aesop Ginger Flight Therapy and it smells so so good, I use it every day to soothe my stressed mind. I am so glad to be able to bring along AA with me.
