Where I got it
I got these from a local spa More Than Skin as I think they are the only physical store in Auckland that stocks them. You can find their products in quite a number of online beauty stores as well, but for Aromatherapy products, I really do prefer to smell them first before committing to a product. I might also book in for a spa with them one day purely because they will be using AA products.
So I went in to have a look what they offer. In stores, they have skincare and body care, but not as wide of a range compared to their online store. Yes, you can order online and they ship to you (free for all orders within Auckland). I picked up the Rose Shower Oil ($60) and the Rose Body Oil ($108). They are quite expensive for body products, but I think they are high quality and it will be my at-home spa products that I use as a pick-me-up, pampering occassion.
What I got
I picked up the Aromatherapy Associates Rose Shower Oil (250ml) and Rose Body Oil (100ml). AA do make other shower oils and body oils, but my favourite right now has to be their rose scent. The bath and shower oil is so concentrated and so beautiful I did not want to wash it off! So I decided to get the body wash and the body oil to prolong the scent on my body.

How I find it
I was really eager to try these new products, I already love my L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil and it is something that I have been using for years and have not found anything else I love as much. First of all, I was a little disappoined with the shower oil bottle. It was a plastic bottle with a disc cap dispenser which can be a little messy. I would prefer a pump bottle to be honest. Anyway, I get in the shower, get myself wet and then pour the shower oil onto my palms and then quickly rub the oil all over my body. The rose scent is concentrated in it’s oil form, and as you massage it onto wet skin, it transforms into a milk and the scent starts to fill the shower and then bathroom. It disperses into the air and is less concentrated. Washing this off made me sad, but my skin felt really smooth and supple after the shower and my skin smelt really nice of roses and it’s the same rose scent as their best-selling bath and shower oil.
After shower, I pat dry myself and then immediately move onto applying the rose body oil. This one comes in a frost glass bottle, a clear plastic cap over a pump dispenser. I use one pump for each of my arms, 2 pumps for each of my legs and then 2 pumps for the rest of my body. I apply body oil all over my body except for my back and chest which can be prone to breakouts and congestion. The body oil smells amazing of roses, but it is still slightly different to the Rose Bath and Shower oil that I love so much. It’s not the type of body oil that has a lot of slip, so you do need to apply an adequate amount to cover the body. it is not the type I would say “a little goes a long way”.
Overall
Thoroughly enjoyed both products and I am fully infested in AA’s products. They smell amazing and they feel luxurious. I have not tried a heck of a lot of different aromatherapy bodycare brands so I couldn’t really compare them with anything else. I am just impressed with their products and my favourite is the rose scent. After trying out their shower oil and the body oil, I would say my favourite would still be the bath and shower oil but that is entirely different type of product. The shower oil I’m review here is an actual emulsifying shower oil that transform from oil to milk that has surfactants to cleanse the skin, but the Bath and Shower Oil does not. This one is a purely a mixture of oils and it does not emulsify, so you need to use a body wash afterwards.
You may be wondering then why do I even bother with the shower and bath oil because I need to wash it off with something else? Will is remove some of the scent and nourishment from the oils? The short answer is yes, the intensity of the fragrance does reduce when you use a body wash afterwards, but it is necessary as the oil does not “cleanse” the body. But because the oil is so concentrated, you will still be able to enjoy the scent in the room and on your skin. If you can, use an unscented body wash to not mix scents. Otherwise use the same scented shower oil to preserve the scent. What I like to do is after the shower, I apply a small amount of the bath and shower oil around my shoulder and neck area so the scent lingers around me. Even when I haven’t used any of these products in the shower, I really enjoy using it as fragrance oil.
