Where I got it
I little while ago, my sister sent me a link to apply for the Atomy Experience Challenge which was basically an application to try out their skincare or healthcare products and there was a list of contents you need to create. For example, an unboxing vidoe, a first impressions video, written review, etc. There were deadlines, but basically no particular requirement as to what you need to say or write about. They also allow you to choose up to 2 sets of skincare or healthcare products to review and give you a choice of complimentary products as a thank you gift for participating. Therefore this is not a paid or sponsored post, but the products are all gifted to me in return of some video and written content.
Now that I have explained how I got these products, let me tell you what I know about the brand Atomy. This is not a very well-known brand in New Zealand at the moment, but they are similar to Usana or NuSkin. Atomy is a South Korean cosmetics company founded in 2009 and has become one of the world’s biggest “multilevel marketing” (MLM) companies – where individuals make money by selling items and getting people to sign up – and claims to have 15 million members globally” – TheGuardian.com. They are currently very popular amongst the Asian community where I often see people promoting their skincare as well as their health supplements and household items. Their product range from skincare, health supplements like vitamin C and enzyme powders, personal care products like haircare and body care, household items like kitchen detergents and laundry liquids, also food and beverages.
Before I was sent the link from my sister, I learnt about this brand from an old friend of mine. She is Vietnamese-chinese married to a Chinese family, and she was the makeup artist for my wedding over 10 years ago. She has since become a mother and no longer a makeup artist. She introduced me to drinking this instant Pu’er tea by Atomy. I am a big tea-drinker and I love my green tea and black tea, but I hate fruity tea. I fell in love with the Pu’er tea and it was so convenient as well. I started to repurchase from her a few times and eventually she told me she was able to “sponsor me” to become a member of Atomy and at first I was a little skeptical because I didn’t want to be a salesperson and did not want this to “become my next line of income”. I just wanted to be a consumer and buy the products. She assured me it was nothing like that and I was able to become a cosumer member (something along those lines) and just shop on the website without going through her anymore. I wonder if she gets any commission? I didn’t really mind either way.
Anyway, I applied for the “challenge” (complete with a short video of my personal introduction) and they accepted my application within 2 weeks. I recieved a call from one of their team and we also exchanged emails with my postal details. The products are about to arrive either this week or the week after. At the time, I will update this blog post as I go. Otherwise, you might see updates on my IG stories!
What I got
So this is one of the skincare sets that I recieved to try. This is the Atomy The Fame skincare set and there are 5 products in this range – a toner, an eye cream, an essence, a lotion, and a nutrition cream (in order of how it is used. These are available for purchase as a set ($155) and separately (I will include prices below). The FAME range was originally the Atomy Skin Care 6 System and the slogan that accompany the range is “unfading beauty, unfading reputation”. There wasn’t a lot of information regarding the background of the range except for the “4 technologies ” in combination with new materials and low irritancy.
I won’t be going into the really fine details of the technologies behind the products, because the information is quite overwhelming and not my expertise to understand. I am just going to take you through simple descriptions and my personal thougts and experience of these products.
The Fame Toner ($35 for 150ml). Recharges dry skin with concentrated moisture through the Skin Moisturising System. 3 types of non-irritating moisture components get absorbed to quickly soothe the skin.
This toner contains quite a lot of floral and herbal extracts, like houttuynia cordata extract, centella asiatica extract, and green tea extract. It also contains hyaluronic acid, ceramide NP as well as squalane, etc. The ingredients list is really impressive, but also quite lengthy.
The Fame Eye Cream ($35 for 40ml). Total wrinkle care for the eyes and face. Highly concentrated phospholipids-like nutrients made with HST film technology get quickly absorbed. A 2nd skin barrier is formed to treat both fine and deep wrinkles.
The occlusive and humectant ingredients are now higher in the ingredients list, therefore it is a lot more moisturising. it also contains all that floral and herbal extracts like that in the toner with added ingredients like niacinamide. Again, the ingredients list is quite impressive.
The Fame Essence ($37 for 50ml). Concentrated nourishing care deep into the skin through the M/F method. More highly effective ingredients are delivered deeper and faster through the Micro Delivery System.
The essence has an even more impressive ingredients list. The first ingredient is a phellinus linteus extract (meshima mushroom), which is a medicinal mushroom. It also has the bifida ferment lysate, a probiotic ingredient (used in one one of the most iconic serums – Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair). This ingredient it in all of the products in this range, but mostly in the middle or towards the end of the list. The essence however, has it as the second ingredient, then comes water, so you can tell this is a potent product. After that, it contains pretty much the same kind of floral and herbal extracts as the other products.
The Fame Lotion ($35 for 135ml). Nutrients burst upon application through the SRM System and adhere soft and smooth against the skin. Recharges the skin with a complex of hydration and oil for concentrated moisture.
I would say that this has pretty much the same ingredients as the toner. The lotion has more emollients, but basically all other ingredients are more or less the same as the toner.
The Fame Nutrition Cream ($35 for 50ml). Last step care for firmness and preventing loss of moisture. Fully hydrates the skin through the Natural Skin Fit System to perfect the look of unbreakably strong skin. Highly concentrated complex components energize the skin and form a dense barrier to achieve strong, firm skin.
Lastly, the nutrition cream has water, glycerin and isohexadecane (a skin-conditioning and texture enhancer) as the first 3 ingredients. It focuses on the texture of the cream, and providing humectants and occlusive to provide a protective barrier on the skin. Can be used all over the face including the eye area, and don’t forget about the neck and chest area!
How I find it
Let’s start from the order of how I use these products. First of all, the set it missing a cleanser and I have no idea why, because I think cleansing is a very important part of my skincare routine. So after cleansing with my own cleanser, I would use the Toner. The instructions indicate the use the toner with a cotton pad, so I wipe it on with a cotton pad, and then use another 2 pumps to apply directly to my skin with my palms. The toner has an essence consistency, not watery like a usual toner. It is really hydrating and soothing on the skin. It gives instant hydration to the skin and preps my skin for the next product.
Then I use the Essence. I would say the essence is more like a serum because of it’s thickness. It has a thick-ish consistency compared to your usual essence, and it provides even more hydration to the skin. It feels lightweight on the skin and feels really fresh. After the essence, I will use the Eye Cream. Now I am not a huge advocate for using an eye cream. I think you can use your essence, lotion or face cream or the eye area, you just need to use gentle pressure and motion for that delicate area. The eye cream is a large jar so I would happily use this for the entire face if I want to. Otherwise I won’t be missing an eye cream if this set does not contain one. The texture of the eye cream is creamy and moisturising. It also has a light floral scent which is the same for the entire range.
After the eye cream, I will use the Lotion which is more or less a lightweight moisturiser. You usually won’t see a lotion product in western skincare, but in Asian skincare they are very common. This lotion noticeably gives you more moisture than hydration compared to the essence and toner. It feels soothing to the skin and it helps to seal all that hydration in. It is still lightweight, but you can tell that the moisture will last. I would use the lotion in the morning and summer nights. As for the Nutrition Cream, I would use this at night time or when my skin feels a it dry or dehydrated, and when I want to put on some foundation. I realised that my skin has been feeling dehydrated at the end of the day if I wear a foundation. So a thicker moisturise would be great as a primer underneath. The cream is not thick and heavy, but it definitely is the most intense in the range. If you have dry skin, you will probably want to use the lotion and the cream.
The fragrance in these products are light and pleasant, it did not cause me any irritation, but I am usually very good with fragrance and I tend to enjoy them.
Overall
Honestly, I don’t think you need the entire range to experience all the beneficial ingredients and technology behind this system or the brand. All of these products basically have the same technology applied to it and the ingredients are generally the same. But if I must choose my favourite, or must-have product from this range, it would have to be toner and the essence. I love the intense and immediate hydrating effects of the toner and the concentrated and potent ingredients in the essence. I think the eye cream is something that I really don’t need. If you want to pick up a moisturiser, I would suggest pick up the lotion if you have oil/combination skin, or the cream is you have dry skin. You really don’t need both.
Overall, my skin really enjoyed all of these products and my skin felt really hydrated and moisturiser to a very comfortable level. Not heavy and not sticky, there are not excess greasiness on the skin and my skin feels soft to the touch and makeup goes on easily without looking cakey or showing dry patches. I do need to add my own SPF for the morning, but Atomy does make sunscreen as well that I will also review in due course (I picked that as my free gift for reviewing their product). Hopefully this review is useful to you as it was really difficult for me to find any reviews online that are independent and not done by an Atomy member.
