Where I got it
We (Auckland) are currently on lockdown and we have been for nearly 2 months now (writing this in mid-October). The Dior beauty boutique and Farmers were all closed until we go back to Level 2, and I wouldn’t be comfortable going out much even at level 2 anyway… So I would have to get the Dior holiday and limited edition items online. I had to use a personal shopper to order the Rouge Dior Couture Deluxe Collection and the Rouge Dior Minaudiere Lip & Clutch Set all the way from the US and had to pay for personal shopper fees. However, I learned that Selfridges have stocked these already and they ship to New Zealand (sometimes they don’t, for example, Chanel sets, they don’t). I could only see the eyeshadow quints, the blushes, and lipsticks, the Christmas sets, etc. Not the Minaudiere clutch which is the gold clutch case. I guess some items are not available to ship to certain countries.
I ordered these on 14/10 and they arrived on 18/10. It wasn’t after I unboxed the items and looked back at my order summary email that I realised Selfridges has sent me the wrong palette. I ordered the 469 House of Gold which is the one with the gold eyeshadow in the middle, but they sent me 739 House of Dreams instead which has the silver shade in the middle. I believe they do offer free returns, but I really cannot be bothered sending things back and reordering the right one, but that was a little disappointing…
NOTE: The Minaudiere is part of the Holiday 2021 collection, but I will review that in a separate post.
What I got
These items are from the Dior 2021 Holiday Collection – The Atelier of Dreams. I picked up the 5 Couleurs Couture Palette in 739 House of Dreams (also in 469 Atelier Dore), and the Rouge Blush in 601 Hologram (only one shade). To celebrate the holiday season, Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, pays tribute to the House of Dior by playing with the stylistic codes of the prestigious 30 avenue Montaigne façade, peppering its festive touches throughout the collection.
The 2021 Holiday collection are all limited edition releases in terms of their shades. The entire collection contains the following:
- Rouge Dior Minaudiere: Comes with the 4 limited edition shades listed below in a timeless and travel-friendly Minaudiere that features a removable case and lipstick holder. It can be carried as a clutch, over the shoulder or around the neck for a modern, sophisticated look.
- 4 Rouge Dior shades: 466 Pink Rose – bright pink, 873 Sparkling Peony – Peony red, 862 Winter Poppy – poppy red, 858 Red Pansy – pansy red.
- 2 5 Couleurs Couture Palette: 469 Atelier Dore – warm shades of brown and gold, and a beige, and 739 House of Dreams – luminous shades of taupe, brown and pink, around a shimmering silver.
- 1 Rouge Blush in 601 Hologlam – Shimmering Pink.
- 4 Diorific Lipstick – 074 Rose D’Hiver – Timeless rosewood, 075 Rouge Capucine – Luminous Red, 076 Taupe Ispahan – warm brownish pink, 077 Midnight Corolle – bold plum.
- 2 Diorific Vernis: 001 Bouton D’Or – gold and silver glitter topcoat, 862 Poppy – Bold red, 992 Corolle – bold eggplant purple.
- Eclan Couture Multi-use Palette: Includes 1 illuminating powder, 5 eyeshadows, 4 lipsticks, 2 blushes, 1 double-ended applicator for eye makeup, 1 double-ended applicator for lip makeup, 1 blush brush.
- Eclan Couture Eye Palette: 5 eyeshadows and 1 double-ended applicator.
- I also believe there are also new shades in the waterproof eyeliners and lip maximizers, but I couldn’t find much information.
How I find it
5 Couleurs Couture Palette in 739 House of Dreams (USD$72.34 including import duties). I own only one Dior eyeshadow quint and it was also a rather cool-toned palette which I won from a giveaway held by Farmer Beauty. It wasn’t really my first choice of eyeshadow colour-story as I would prefer something warm-toned. This palette is the cool-toned option from the holiday collection. The centre shade is the most significantly different between the two options, we have a cool, shimmery silver. The other 4 shades are very similar to the 469 Atelier Dore, but they are slightly more cool-toned. You get two deeper shades at the bottom, two lighter shades on the top.
Rouge Blush in 601 Hologlam (USD$61.47 including import duties for 4g). The item is currently out of stock at Selfridges.com last time I checked (18/10) and this pretty pink blush with a golden shimmer. It also has that Dior boutique façade on 30 Avenue Montaigne embossed on the blush with the CD logo in the middle. The peachy blush has a slight golden shimmer and even though this is not a limited edition shade, it has the limited edition embossing on top. It is simply beautiful and I really haven’t had the heart to ruin the embossing!
I will insert some images I found on google here.
Overall
The holiday collection is so beautiful, but sadly, I am not able to bring myself to using these products because of the stunning embossing. I have seen many good reviews of these eyeshadow quality and blush quality. I usually don’t purchase makeup just for collection and it was surely not my original intention when I ordered these. Personally, I would have preferred the Atelier Dore because I don’t know if I can carry the cool silver tone in the middle, but the rest of the other shades look quite similar, one with an overall cool-toned and the other warm-toned.
However, I would love to be able to order and purchase it from the Dior beauty boutique in Auckland instead of from Selfridges because I don’t get all the beautiful packaging and samples that I get from the Dior store. However, these limited edition products are really hard to get here in New Zealand and it is 50/50 chance they are either not available here, or they have really limited stock and are usually sold off the VIPs. I will ask the SA I know that works at Dior beauty boutique at Commercial Bay. I am nowhere near VIP status!
