Chanel No.5 The Bath Soaps

Chanel No.5 The Bath Soaps

Where I got it

In the middle of the week mid-April, I received a text from my Chanel beaut SA letting me know that these Limited Edition No.5 Bath Soaps have arrived in stores and the stock is limited. Seeing that I missed some of the No.5 Factory Collection bath products and the No.5 Body Wash I wanted previously was sold out, Julia wondered if I would be interested still these soaps. The packaging of these soaps are very much like the Factory Collection – black lettering on white packaging. The soaps have not been reformulated, but they are shaped in squares instead of oval. This is also a box of 5 instead of sold individually. A box of 5 (75g each) costs NZD$160, but a single standard oval bar costs around $55 (?) for 150g of product. I have never bought their bath soaps before so I don’t know how much they cost. However, Smith & Caughey’s are stocking the bath soaps at the moment if you want to shop online over there.

OK, so I have seen discussions about this box of soap on the internet that it’s a rip-off and it’s the advent calendar all over again. If you are looking for the best bang for your buck, then I would straight up say go for the single bar of soap (oval egg shape) which is a better value for money. This set is probably for those who love to collect limited edition items from Chanel. Personally, I have never purchased a Chanel bath soap and I actually hate that oval, eggy shape. The paper box is also very chic, but each to their own about spending that extra $$ on packaging. So, if you don’t appreciate the value these products, I totally understand and you don’t have to.

What I got

This is a box of 5 Chanel N°5 Bath Soaps (5x75g). Infused with the House’s iconic fragrance, 5 bar soaps are presented in a black and white gift set, a nod to the minimalist design of the N°5 packaging. The soaps are wrapped in tissue paper, which is sealed with a CHANEL stamp. This stamp is reminiscent of the art of baudruchage, used to seal the N°5 bottle, and can be gently removed to release the fragrance. Give this limited-edition set as a gift or keep it for yourself.

How I find it

First of all. do I use bar soaps? No. But do I need Chanel N°5 Soaps? Not really, but I 100% love these! The box that is comes in is super chic and elegant, it is sturdy and can be used as home décor. The soaps are in these rounded square shapes with the N°5 imprinted on one side. Each soap is plastic wrapped with a CC stick at the back to preserve the soaps. The soaps have a soft pink colour that feels very nostalgic to me. Besides using these as actual soaps to wash your body with, another way to utilise these fragranced soaps are to put them in your drawers and anywhere you want to smell nice – even with the plastic wrapping. It can give your room and drawer a nice ambient scent.

As actual soaps, they are really soft and soapy if you know what I mean. I haven’t used a bar soap in years and this just brings back old memories with my grandma. The soap lathers up easily and makes things pretty slippery. It smells so nice in the shower, but as I rinse off the soap, I can immediately feel that stripping feeling from using a traditional bar soap. My skin feels squeaky clean and slightly tight even under running water. The words hydrating and moisturising does not relate to these bath soaps. I keep these in a little soap tin inside the shower area so I keep it from being damp and wet all the time. However, I can tell that it is getting used up even after using it for about 2 weeks.

After washing off, you can still smell the beautiful scent, but it is not long-lasting after that. You could easily layer the scent by using the No.5 Body Lotion or EDP as part of a entire routine. I actually prefer the light scent lingering on around me to the point I don’t think it’s strong on me, but others can smell it lightly. It is less offensive to other people, but at the same time I smell great, especially at night-time at home.

Overall

Again, shopping with my SA is a treat. She gave me skincare samples including the new Sublimage eye serum which is from their prestige range. I already love their Le Lift eye cream which is moisturising and not too heavy. I already have plans to purchase that. She also have me some foundation samples of the same range which I am excited to try. However, this Sublimage range is overall too expensive for me, so unless it is absolutely amazing, I won’t be purchasing these in the near future. The samples also include the N°1 de Chanel moisturising cream which I was also interested in getting. I have their serum in this range and really liked it and the cream is also a bit more affordable than the Le Lift and Sublimage range.

As for the soaps, they are really a luxury treat and quite a collector’s item to fulfil that “limited-edition product” hole in me. I really don’t need 5 bars of soap. Even when I don’t really like the smell of the N°5 EDP, thinking it is really strong and quite mature, the lighter versions of this is really enjoyable – like the L’Eau N°5 and the hair mist. The soaps give that same gentle scent on the nose that is not offensive. And for my wardrobe to smell like Chanel N°5, it just feels luxurious and chic.
