Where I got it
I went out to the Chanel beauty boutique at Britomart on my birthday, which happens to be on a Saturday and they were having some mini facial and makeup application events going on. Honestly, I think they do these mini facials and makeup applications when you request it in-store anyway. I don’t think it was anything VIP about these events. However, my SA did tell me they are launching the new Les Beiges Summer 2022 makeup collection which are the new oversize bronzing powders as well as 2 new shades of their famous bronzing cream. The Bronzing Powder and the corresponding oversize kabuki brush are limited edition, but the 2 new shades for the cream bronzers are permanent. Also in the same collection, there is a new Illuminating Oil for the face, body and hair.

I told Julia I want to secure the products before I come in for my facial because they have been selling these as early as Wednesday 1st of June and I don’t want to miss out on the products I wanted. She also told me about the limited edition, very low-quantity Chanel music box with the Chance Eau Tendre EDP. I saw this music box online, which looks really cute, but the music is not what I expected (Perfect (feat. BIA & MC Pikachu) – Sam I & Tropkillaz). Chance Eau Tendre also isn’t something that I love so I skipped it. But for the record, it was $380 for the music box that is rechargeable via USB and the EDP is 100ml which is RRP$292.
What I got
So I pre-paid for the Illuminating Oil and the Oversize Healthy Glow Sun-kissed Powder in Sunshine – Light (comes in 3 shades, Sunkiss – Medium and Sunbath – Deep). The Oversize Kabuki brush is $96, butI did not purchase. Come Saturday, I had a mini facial with their “promo team” and then a quick makeup application by my SA. I ended up picking up the Le Blanc Healthy Light Creator Cream Fine as well as a Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue which I won’t talk about in this post.
Illuminating Oil for face, body and hair ($147 for 250ml). A dry oil that envelopes the skin in softness and delivers a subtle veil of satiny light. A formula with an evanescent texture, which softens skin and gives hair a coppery shine.
Oversize Healthy Glow Sun-kissed Powder in Sunshine – Light ($143 for 15g). A sun-kissed powder embossed with the iconic rounded square, housed in an XXL version of the emblematic LES BEIGES compact. An ultra-lightweight cream-powder texture, for creating a naturally bronzed look. 3 shades, ranging in intensity, for a subtly sun-kissed complexion. Apply to the face, body, and décolleté.
How I find it
Let’s go through the new products in the Les Beiges Summer 2022 collection.
The Illuminating Oil was quickly sold out because it was such a beautiful and new product. I know that Chanel has body massage oils and facial oils but they are well over $300 for body oils and over $200 for a smaller 30ml bottle of facial oil. $147 for a 250ml bottle of body oil with shimmer is actually a very good price for Chanel. This is a dry oil meaning that it is very watery and lightweight. It has a light scent, in line with the Hydra Beauty skincare products and the coppery shimmer is very subtle as well. When I opened the box that it comes in, the oil and shimmer particles has separated entirely and I could see the oil on the top is clear and very watery. The shimmer particles was just under 10mm high from the bottom of the bottle. The shimmer particles were almost stuck at the bottom of the bottle like a solid layer. It took me a good few minutes shake to mix everything and when it started getting loose, it looked a little gloopy. The particles settle down as soon as you put the bottle down, so you need to shake the bottle up well each time you use it.
The oil feels so silky smooth on the skin upon application and the shimmer effect is subtle and beautiful. I would say if you are looking for something very long-lasting with that bronze-goddess glow, this would not be it. This oil is absorbed quickly leaving a temporary glow on the skin, but it is also rubbed off easily on clothing. It doesn’t stain my coloured clothing but if you are wearing white or very light colours, it will transfer, but it is also easily removed. I wouldn’t say this illuminating oil has good longevity, but it does provide some moisture to the skin along with some glow and a fresh scent that you can only smell in close proximity.
Next, let’s have a look at the Oversize Healthy Glow Sun-kissed Powder. I picked up the lightest shade because I prefer a subtle look for my bronzer and use it more to sculpt my face. For an oversized compact and pan size, I would’ve expected there would be more product than 15g. The bronzing powders were still available when I went into the store and they are also available at Smith & Caughey’s and selected Farmers, so I don’t think people are crazy over these. The compact itself follows the same look as all previous Les Beiges collections with a beige-coloured compact with black borders. The compact is significantly larger than any Chanel highlighters or eyeshadow palettes. It doesn’t come with a velvet pouch, nor does it come with a brush you have to purchase one separately (which I have bought in a separate occasion).
I also saw on social media that Asia countries apparently do not have these bronzer shades. Instead they have the same oversized compact, but they are highlighters. Or blush highlighters because they are a pink-toned powders. They are called Oversize Healthy Glow Highlighting Powder (highlighter) in Tender Pink and Soft Peach.
Chanel Les Beiges Oversize Kabuki Brush ($96). This brush is so fluffy and soft! It is truly a large kabuki brush that works great for this sun-kissed powder compact. The bristles are really soft and picks up the product so well. A light swipe over the powder and the bristles pick up a good dusting of the product and the powder is so finely milled as well! Check out the reel on my IG. This is my very first Chanel makeup brush (except for the mini one that came in the Water-fresh tint).

Overall
As far as I know, the Illuminating Oil has been sold out at the Chanel beauty boutique at Britomart and they are not available at Smith & Caughey’s. I think this is a boutique exclusive product and they are not getting any restocks at the moment. I am very happy to have bought one and I’m sorry if you have missed out. Down here in New Zealand, even online retailers like Neiman Marcus and Selfridges, do not ship Chanel products to us. Neither do we have a Chanel.com website where we can purchase online. You really have to be on the SA’s books to get something this new and hot.
Unfortunately, Farmers Botany did not have any stock of the the Kabuki brush and the display is ONLY for display purposes. Initially I decided to not get the kabuki brush because I thought I have a bronzer brush already, but when I touched it at the Botany Farmers display and I was impressed with how soft and fluffy it is. I just had to get it.
Anyway, let’s talk about the products. I personally love the Illuminating Oil because it is just so beautiful. The clear glass bottle with the black cap. It is a huge bottle which looks super luxurious. The oil is lightweight and not sticky at all. Now I would say some people prefer more shimmer that stays on the skin for a long time, or a heavier body oil to seal in hydration and provide moisture without additional product. However, this dry oil is quite light and the shimmer is subtle. If you have dry skin or you need long-lasting moisture, you are better off with applying a body lotion or cream beforehand and then use this oil over the top for a subtle shimmer. In terms of the longevity of the shimmer particles, it is not a glow oil for beach parties as such. It is probably enjoyable by yourself only. It has a lovely Les Beiges scent to it which can last for a good hour or so. It is the overall luxurious experience when you apply the product and how it looks on your stash that makes it all worthwhile (IMO). I would definitely get this again if I have the choice and if it comes without shimmer, I would still 100% get it.
The Sun-Kissed Powder is actually my very first Chanel powder bronzer as I already have the Soleil Tan de Chanel (original cream bronzer). A powder bronzer isn’t something new to me and I actually do have a couple of bronzing powders that I am still using and would never be able to finish. But the oversized compact just makes it so appealing and I would love to try out Chanel’s formula. The shade I have chosen works great on my light-medium Asian skin tone as my makeup style isn’t bold and I prefer subtle bronzing or sculpting around the face. I probably don’t need another Chanel bronzer for the next 5 years or more.
Let’s not forget about the Oversize Kabuki Brush! It is such a beautiful brush and I just can’t get over how fluffy and soft and big it is! However, it does take a long time to full dry after washing and you really need to spot clean each time you use is and deep clean probably every week if you use it daily to ensure the products don’t get stuck deep into the brush. I am so glad I picked it up, and I’m not sure if it is permanent or limited edition like the oversize powder?
