Where I got it
You would have seen so much hype, videos and imagery of the Chanel Tweed eyeshadow collections. Chanel launched a Tweed collection consisting only of 4 eyeshadow quad palettes. The special thing about this collection is that each palette comes with its colour co-ordinated tweed pouch! Usually, Chanel palettes come in a black velvet pouch with the CC logo pressed onto it. These tweed pouches come in different colours for each palette and the lining has the CC logos. The collection officially launched in New Zealand, and most other countries on 1st September 2022. I noticed that there had been so many influencers online have got their products earlier, but I actually have no idea how they got them before the official launch.
So I received a phone call from my Chanel beauty SA a week before the launch to secure my appointment to view these palettes and purchase them before they are launched to the public. The appointments were from Thursday-Sunday and the public sale starts on Monday the following week. However, on Friday 2nd September, I saw these palettes are available on Smith & Caughey’s website for $171 each. I picked up one of these palettes (01) from my SA because I really do love them after seeing them in person, but I really could not afford to buy all of them at $171 each. The usual eyeshadow quad is normally $127, so this is $44 more than usual. These are limited edition, but still.

Whist getting the eyeshadow palette in stores, I also went out of my way to try and source these overseas because I know we are getting ripped off here in NZ. I contacted Tavia on Chicprofileofficial on IG and bought two of the other palettes from her (03 and 04). She did not have 02 anymore, which was a shame. She sold me 03 (without pouch) and 04 (with pouch) for a total of 95 pounds including international shipping and her fees.
What I got
I picked up the one palette that I know I would get very good use out of and none of the shades is too similar to each other. However, it means that I already have something similar in my collection. Each palette comes in a classic Chanel black and gold box. Inside, we have the cute tweed pouch. Palette 01 Tweed Cuivre comes with a peachy-orange and brown tweed pouch. The brown colour is throughout all the tweed pouches, in different deepness. Each shade has a tweed-looking embossing on the top and would soften as you use the product. The finishes and textures of these shades are all slightly different and I go through them one by one.
How I find it
Let’s start with 01 Tweed Cuivre. This is the palette I bought from the Chanel boutique. This palette is warm-toned and the finishes are all shimmery with a particular metallic finish for the lighter two shades. The above swatches were done from the bottom right then bottom left, top right and lastly top left. As usual, Chanel eyeshadows are not highly pigmented like what you would get from Natasha Denona or Pat Mcgrath. They are buildable and easy to use even for beginners. I would use the middle two shades as the base colour on my eyelid, and then I would use the lightest colour as a topper shimmer and to the inner corner. The deepest shade is great for an evening look and to deepen the lash line.
For all of these palettes, I used a synthetic eyeshadow brush (rephr brush 28) to apply the colours to my eyelid area and you need to build up the colour but it blends effortlessly. After laying down the colours, I used a blending brush (rephr brush 27) to blend everything together. Finally, I used my fingertips to pick up the topper shade and press it into the centre of my eyelids and the inner corners.
03 Tweed Fauve was actually one palette that I thought I wasn’t going to get because I am weary about wearing red/coral on my eye area because that would usually make me look like I’ve been punched or I’ve been crying my eyes out. However, I was overwhelmed with the thought of getting these palettes before they sell out and that these shades a sheer so I can still use them. The finishes of these shades are slightly more subdued than 01. Shades 1, 2 and 4 are more satin, and shade 3 has a slightly metallic finish. Shade 3 of this palette looked very similar to shade 1 of the 01 palettes.
Because of the gentle wash of colour these eyeshadows give, the coral shades are very easy to apply and wear. The colour intensity can be built up, and personally, I don’t want the coral/orange colours to be too intense on my eye area. I used the bottom right shade all over my lid area as a base, and then I intensify the deepness to the outer corners with the top left colour. The top right topper shade is always in the middle of the lid and to the inner corners. If I want a smokey look, I would use the top left colour as a base colour and then the bottom left brown colour to smoke out the eye look. But overall, the golden metallic shade in this palette actually looks great over the coral shades.
You could wear this palette with a lot less coral tones by not using the bottom right shade (topper shade) and by laying the bottom left shade (deep brown) down first before layering on the top left (deeper reddish brown). Similar to palette 01, these colours are also the same formula and finish. The shimmer/topper shade on both palettes is applied much better with fingertips because they do have a bit of fallout if you pick it up with a brush and just do not apply it properly with a brush.
04 Tweed Brun et Rose is a cool-toned brown with a hint of grey. As per the name of this palette “brown and pink” in French, the shimmer/topper shade is a cool-toned rosy pink. The other 3 colours were almost greyish brown colour. I would say this palette is really easy to use and the colours blend together very nicely. I like to use the top left shade and lay that down as a base colour. Then I will deepen the eye area from the centre to the outer corner with the top right colour. If I need to smoke out the look, I would use the deepest shade with a liner brush staying close to the lash line. Then of course finish off with the pinky shimmer shade on the centre of the eyelids and the inner corners.
I really like the deep brown colour in this palette as it is closest to a matte shade as it is from the other 2 palettes. It is deep enough for a smokey eye look, but the rest of the two shades are close enough in colour, but with slightly different deepness to create a nice dimension on the eyes. The topper shade is quite pale in colour, and I would say it is almost champagne instead of pink. It looks nice on top of the other colours in the palette, but I wouldn’t be expecting any rosy or pinky colour. It is just a nice topper shade with some sparkle.
Overall
All in all, I really enjoy these palettes. I enjoy the colours as well as the formulas. As mentioned before, they are not super pigmented shadows, nor are they super creamy. They are good quality eyeshadows that give a decent payoff that is buildable and not difficult to work with. You can build and blend the intensities of the colours without trouble. The shades in each palette are different enough to see a difference between them, but they are also quite common shades that you can easily get from other brands. Other more affordable brands. In all honesty, I wouldn’t say these are worth $171 each unless you are a Chanel collector. It is quite a collector’s item.
As for the tweed pouch, I’m not someone who would bring my eyeshadow palette out with me on the go, so unless I use the pouch for something else I would only see it in my vanity drawer. However, this pouch can be used to hold a mirror, or hold some papers or loose bits in your handbag, but not big enough to hold any lipsticks or credit cards, etc. The tweed textile and the inside lining are also quite delicate so you can easily rip and damage it. Therefore, other than getting pretty IG photos, I don’t see what I can do with these pouches.
In summary, I would not buy backups on these palettes, nor will I get palette #02. But if you want a piece of this iconic tweed history, you should grab one before they all sell out!
