Where I got it
In late September this year, Dior has launched a new transfer-proof lipstick formula. Not a liquid lipstick, but a bullet lipstick that has amazing staying power. These long-wear lipsticks come in matte black bullets with silver CD logo on the side and at the top. Super chic, but it can show greasy fingerprints and it can drive me crazy. Anyway, these lipsticks are available in all Dior counters, online from the dior.co.nz website as well as Smith & Caughey’s website for $74.
What I got
These are the Rouge Dior Forever Transfer-proof lipsticks. I picked up 3 shades from this collection because I was quite excited about this formula as it is not a liquid lipstick, but still promises transfer-proof. Also the matte-black case is simply irresistable! I picked up 200 Forever Nude Touch, 525 Forever Cherie and 720 Forever Icone. This is the description from the Dior.co.nz website “Dior innovates with Rouge Dior Forever, the 1st transfer-proof Dior lipstick in a bullet format. Ultra-pigmented for intense colour and concentrated in floral lip care, it ensures 16h* of wear without compromising comfort. All day long, Rouge Dior Forever transfer-proof lipstick is resistant to contact, even with fabrics; the couture colour with an ultra-matte finish does not budge. The shades are revealed and emboldened, more intense than ever. Echoing Christian Dior’s love of flowers, Rouge Dior Forever is infused with red peony extract, an iconic ingredient at the heart of the Rouge Dior collection, to help maintain the natural hydration of the lips. Comfortable and supple from morning until night, lips are enhanced with colour that remains intact and intense, that you’ll forget you’re wearing: no need for touch-ups with this transfer-proof lipstick, the colour can express its full intensity. A true formulation feat, Rouge Dior Forever rises to every challenge, even that of being clean.** Rich and varied, the range of Rouge Dior Forever shades fulfills women’s makeup desires. In addition to iconic tone-on-tone and trendy shades, Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, has imagined extraordinary and ultra-couture shades, to discover in a limited edition.”
How I find it
First of all, the box packaging is in the usual deep blue colour that Dior lipsticks come in – so deep it almost looks black. Inside, the lipstick case is in a matte black packaging with silver CD logo. Even the cannage pattern around the case is in matte black. The case is so chic, but it also attracts oily fingerprints and it is a pain to remove.
When I first swatched it on my wrist, I thought the formula was super creamy and silky. At the same time, there was really good pigment payoff. It felt so creamy I almost felt that this couldn’t be long-wearing or transfer-proof. When I applied to my lips, I had 2 runs on my lower lips and then just a once over for my upper lips. then I simply press my lips together to blend the pigments together. Then I use my fingertips to blur out the edges to get that blotted lip look instead of a full-coverage look. I quickly pressed my lips onto a piece of tissue and there was transfer, I was a little disappointed but the overall colour remain very nice on my lips. I went about my day with a mask over my face and when I took it off, I saw no transfer on my mask! I was pretty impressed.
After a few experiments with the lipstick, I figured the best way for this lipstick to be “transfer-proof”, you need to blot after application and wait about a minute or so to allow the formula to settle. Once the pigments have settled, the lipstick is quite good to staying put. However, it does transfer when you eat a meal, but not necessary when you drink from a glass or a straw.
The shades I picked up were shades that I know works for me. 200 Forever Nude Touch was pretty much my nude shade and it compliments my skintone very well. I am very happy with this shade that I wear this to work or to church. I could wear this with no eye makeup, or I could wear this with a bold eye makeup look. 525 Forever Cherie was a shade that I saw someone posted online to which I thought looked pretty good. So I decided to give that a go. The colour did not disappoint as it was not too bright of a pinky coral, and it was definitely something I could wear also to work or out for lunch. A little more colour than the Nude Touch. Finally, the 720 Forever Icone. Icone is already a shade that I love in the original Roue Dior lipstick formulation. It is a beautiful medium deep, warm coral colour. More intense than Forever Cherie, you can kind of tell that I love warm-toned lipsticks. I would say Forever Icone is great for a more dressy lunch or an event, or as a less intense nighttime lipstick. You get an intense colour without standard red lip look.
Overall
I am very pleased with this lipstick in terms of the comfort, shades, and longevity. I would say if you have really dry lips to get rid of flakey bits first and maybe prime your lips with a bit of lip balm – preferably not something too oily. The lipstick also has a rather intense old-fashioned lipstick scent of cherries. I can see myself using these lipsticks more and more when I prefer something a little more long-wearing and having a soft-matte finish.
Have you tried this lipstick formula and do you like it?
