Where I got it
As usual, I get my Chanel products through my SA and I was told about 2 weeks in advance that we will be getting this launch (Holiday 2022 – Demander la Lune). I was told they were holding a VIP event date for the launch of their holiday collection. Usually, these VIP events could be a facial or a makeup application redeemable with purchases over $150. I actually don’t know how much these “services” cost, so I’m not even sure whether it is a “good deal” or not. Anyway, I usually don’t have time to go into town and attend these events and I just get Julia to call me at a certain time of the day to place my order and she ships them to me. This time I ordered the Coco Mademoiselle Pearly Body Gel, along with two of the Rouge Allure Laque lipsticks and a shimmering amber top coat. She gave me some Sublimage samples which I always love. She also gave me a gift which is a slim black pouch with the word “CHANEL BEAUTE” embroidered on the front. It has a wide bottom so the pouch can stand on its own. Pretty cute and I’ve never seen it online before. I believe the Britomart shop has the entire collection which includes the N.5 The Gold Body Oil, Coco Mademoiselle Pearly Body Gel, two Rouge Allure Laque lipsticks, two L’extrait lipsticks, a Multi-use gel gloss, two nail polish, two Oversize Illuminating Face Powder and a Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow quad.
What I got
Coco Mademoiselle Pearly Body Gel (250ml made in France) ($174). Product: A shimmering body gel that imparts a beautiful glow. A majestic clear glass bottle showcases the iridescent luster of pearlescent particles, which appear weightlessly suspended and recall Gabrielle Chanel’s penchant for pearls. The lightweight, non-sticky formula leaves skin with a subtle satin finish and delicately scented with the ambery notes of COCO MADEMOISELLE. Composition: Fresh, vibrant orange and bergamot awaken the senses. A clear and sensual heart reveals a transparent accord of jasmine and May rose. The scent finally unfurls with refined accents of patchouli, vetiver and white musk. Le Top Coat Shimmery Amber Top Coat (347 Etoile) ($50 each). An endless source of reverie and mystery, it guides both rebirth and metamorphosis. In shadow and in light, in simplicity and in opulence, in shades of amber, red and gold, the Moon and the legend become intertwined in a modern-day fairytale. LE TOP COAT ÉTOILÉ, a coppery amber, gives nails sheer, pearly shine. This amber sparkle top coat sets and protects nail polish and adds a shimmery effect.”
How I find it
Before the launch, I knew that I would pick up only one of the large bottle body oil/gel product because I already have the Les Beiges Illuminating Oil and one bottle would already last me ages. The new N°5 Gold Body Oil has a similar result as the Les Beiges Illuminating Oil, but just in the N°5 scent. The shimmer is very subtle and would rub off easily, just leaving a trail of scent and moisturised skin. The new Coco Mademoiselle Pearly Body Gel on the other hand is quite different. It is a lightweight fluid gel with a peachy-champagne shimmer. This body gel leaves a more intense shimmer on the skin once the body gel has evaporated or absorbed. I would say that the gel has an alcohol base so the gel dries down pretty quickly and leaves the skin feeling fresh and dry.
If you prefer a refreshing dry-to-the-touch feeling on the skin with a more intense shimmer, you would prefer the Pearly Body Gel. If you prefer a body oil with a light layer of moisture and a hint of shimmer, you would love the Gold Body Oil. Now, of course, you would need to love the fragrance of these two products because they smell the same as their corresponding perfume, but less intense. The fragrance does last for a couple of hours, but obviously not as much as a body lotion or the EDP. It is a good layering product and it is fun to apply and gorgeous to look at on display. The shimmer also does not stay on the skin and is easily rubbed off from clothing.
The two Rouge Allure Laque shades this year are shimmery. Shade 88 Rose Mystere is a beige pink with a mild gold shimmer. Shade 89 Rouge Ombre is a deeper festive red with a red metallic shimmer. Rouge Allure Laque has intense pigmentation and a shiny finish. It is supposed to be long-wearing, but I wouldn’t say it is budge-proof at all. It rubs off easily on a piece of tissue, but you will get really good pigment on the lips. I would say shade 89 Rouge Ombre has a more intense metallic finish compared to the 88 Rose Mystere. It definitely is more festive. However, I love 88 Rose Mystere because it has a more subdued color and a mild shimmer.
The Shimmering Top Coat is a semi-translucent top coat with that lovely amber, golden shimmer. It can be worn on its own, or over nail colour if you wish. Here I tried it with a coffee-coloured nail polish and it looked OK, but it would look more festive over red nail polish. I personally prefer to wear it on its own or over something neutral.
Overall
Honestly, I was not particularly over the moon (no pun intended) for this collection. The Les 4 Ombre colour story appears to be very common shades that I already have in my collection. The two oversize illuminating powders were also very deep in tone – they would look great as an eyeshadow colour, but not on my cheekbones. However, I was quite excited about the Body Oil and Pearly Body Gel because they were really interesting and something “different”. I also found the two Rouge Allure Laque with shimmers to be quite festive and beautiful. As for the L’extrait lipsticks, I think they are just too expensive for how much product you get. So unless they are really special shades, it will be quite hard to persuade me to purchase them. Nail polish in this collection is also beautiful, but I have stopped wearing dark polishes for years now because they do stain my nails, so they were an easy pass.
Overall, I am quite happy with the products I purchased, but one downside to the Pearly Body Gel is that it is laden with alcohol and dries down quite fast on the skin, leaving my skin feeling a little dry. The shimmer is quite nice, but only if you plan to apply it to areas where you will not have clothing rubbing across it. I applied it in the morning, put on a jacket and after about an hour, the shimmers are pretty much all gone and the scent is also quite faint. I would have preferred a body lotion or body oil formula instead of this quick-drying gel.
