Where I got it
First time I heard about this company a little over a year ago and whilst I wasn’t a big jewelry person, I was drawn to the delicate and dainty designs and the modular system. I thought it was a very cool idea to build a small but interesting jewellry collection. I have seen many Youtube channels that I follow talk about their pieces and they truly are beautiful. IDYL* sells sustainable, lab-grown diamonds with a modular design. If you do not already know, lab-grown diamonds are realy diamonds, just created in a lab instead of by nature and mined from the ground. You can read all about the information on the internet or on the IDYL* website. I have bought lab-grown diamonds before and they look, feel and perform exactly the same as mined diamonds. Did I mention they are also a lot more affordable than mined-diamonds?
During their Black Friday sale, I decided to splurge on a pair of diamond studs which I have been eyeing for a long time. I wanted something simple, but I also have the option to add add-ons to these studs to transform them, which is something I know I will get more in the future. So the Black Friday sale was 20% off if you spend over a certain amount. The pair of studs I bought were the big size (0.2tct each stud) and I also grabbed a $200 gift card for my next purchase (gift cards never expire). The purchase qualified me to receive 2 gifts – the Everyday Pouch (RRP AUD$30) and the Muse Kit (RRP AUD$75). I will show you guys what these are below.

The Muse Kit is a cute little silky pouch, slightly puffy. Inside we have an oversized silk scrunchy as well as a mirror. This is great as a little pouch for bits and piece, but not really good for pieces of jewelry.
The Everyday pouch is just a simple cotton pouch with a zip closure. It is also just a little cosmetic pouch for bits and pieces, but I would not just put my jewelry inside withouth something to secure it. Otherwise I would definitely use both of these pouches. I especially love these little cards where you can put your stud through the holes to see what it would look like with these modular add-on pieces. I absolutely love the Amelia (round one) and the Coco (long one)! What a tease!
What I got
These are the idyl Diamond Studs in yellow gold and big size. They are 0.2TCW in traceable solid 14K gold. The diamonds are lab-grown, Color: D-G / Clarity: VS / Cut: excellent. They are approximately 4.75 – 4.90mm in diameter. So this is the base of the modular earring system. The post of these studs are slightly longer than normal to accommodate the add-ons. The diamond has a bezel setting so it would look slightly bigger if you go for white gold. Bezel setting holds the diamond securely in place with a modern and sleek look. They offer excellent protection against bumps and drops. However, I would have gone for a prong setting if it was available because that would give a more classic and elegant look and you can get a better brilliance out of your diamond. I picked yellow gold because it would match with my diamond necklac which has a yellow gold chain.
How I find it
I am very happy with my new studs, of course I would love a bigger diamond, but this size is probably the best size to match with their add-ons. I have a good sized ear lobe, but a large size would look great in proportion. It looks chic and elegant, and is perfect for me to wear on a daily basis. The back is sturdy and I wouldn’t expect this to just fall out of my ears from just normal wear. As you can see the studs are quite subtle on their own. They don’t really stick out from my ear with the bezel setting. It would look great with add-ons that would sit just under my earlobe and even dangle down my ears!
Overall
I think my next pair of earrings for an upgrade would be at least 0.5ct each or even more and I would try the prong setting in white gold. I would definitely purchase some add-ons from IDYL and probably wait for a good sale first. I think I made the right decision with going for the large size because it fits the proportion of my ears. This looks great on its own and with add-ons. In my opinion, anything smaller would be suitable for stacking up along the ear or people with smaller earlobes. If I do get larger studs in the future from somewhere else, I might get another pierce so I can stack this up? I’m not sure. What do you think?
On a side note, I saw that I already have enough loyalty points for a $100 voucher, but there is a minimum spend (minimum $500 spend to use $100 voucher) condition to use vouchers that were earned via the club system. Just around the Christmas/New Years period, idyl released their modular bracelet system again and I was really close to getting one, but I refrained because I did not really like the large ciruclar clasp that is the main design of the modular system. If I am not 100% sure of something that I have to spend so much money on, I decided to let the bracelet go this time.
