Where I got it
On the 2nd April, the Chanel boutique in Britomart Auckland launched the Spring/Summer 2023 collection. The collection consists of two eye and face palettes, a Baume Essentiel, an eyeliner, a mascara and two nail polishes. The colour theme for this collection is a vibrant shades of red. “A symbol of life, a powerful pigment: Red sets the new collection designed by the CHANEL Makeup Creation Studio ablaze. It expresses itself through various hues and intensities, for a palette that allows everyone to compose a completely unique harmony of colours.” – Chanel.com.
I decided to pick up one of the face and eyeshadow palette ($177), one baume essentiel ($85) and one of the nail polishes ($50). I usually get my Chanel products via my SA at the Chanel beauty boutique at Britomart (only one in Auckland), otherwise I would also go to the Chanel counter in my nearby Farmers. I always check prices on Smith & Caughey’s website becaused we (NZ) do not have a Chanel online shop. However, I just noticed that Farmers.co.nz has started stocking Chanel on their website which they had not been in the previous years. This is great for people who collects Farmers Beauty Club points!

What I got
I picked up the Les 4 Rouges Yeux Et Joues Eyeshadow and Blush Palette 957 Tendresse, a Baume Essentiel in Rouge Frais and Le Vernis in 967 Watermelon. “A symbol of life, a powerful pigment: Red sets the new collection designed by the CHANEL Makeup Creation Studio ablaze. It expresses itself through various hues and intensities, for a palette that allows everyone to compose a completely unique harmony of colours.” – Chanel.com.

The 4 powder shades feature matte or satin finishes and can be applied to eyes and cheeks to sculpt, add warmth and illuminate the look of the complexion and gaze. How I find it
A very late review indeed as I think this palette might be sold out already along with some of the shades that was launched at the same time. However, for documentation purposes, I still like to publish the post. I actually do treat my blog posts as documentation of the products I bought, products I tried and products I loved/disliked. It hasn’t really been a blog to persuade people to purchase something.
Anyway, I love love love this Eye and Face palette. I took it to travel and used it for bronzing, blush and highlighter. I also used the shades as eyeshadow which rounds up the entire look. I really did not bring any other blushes or highlighters with me for that 5-day away from home. If I were to add products to my travel, I would add a deeper shade of brown eyeshadow for a smokey look and probably a shimmery shade as well for the inner corners. I did create a bit of hard-pan for some of these shades by using a little bit of a greasy finger over the shade when I swatched these product, but all I had to do was gently scrape off the top part and I’m ready to go.
I have always had a soft spot for the Baume Essentiel highlighter sticks. They are an emollient highlighter balm in a stick so it would look a little glossyon the skin when you first apply it. The gloss does fade after a while, leaving a hint of shimmer/colour from the stick. I like to use this after my foundation, and powder or creams as a final touch on the skin. I like to use my fingertip to soften the balm and then tap it onto my skin or gently swiping. I never really use the stick directly because I don’t want to ruin my makeup underneath. I use it on the top of my cheeks as well as down my nose and on my cupid’s bow.
This red shade looked really festive as it contains a hint of shimmer. This is by far the most pigmented baume essentiel I have own and I would be using this as blush, not a highlighter.
Finally, the Le Vernis nail polish is beautiful. It really embodies the name watermelon. It looks fresh, slightly sheer and the shade of red is perfect. It’s not formal or mature-looking, it is a fun type of red and it’s not difficult to wear on a daily basis. The formula is the same stuff, I couldn’t really tell the difference. Chanel nail polishes are not the longest-lasting polishes out there, but if you do proper preparation of the nails, and paint it properly and coat it with a good top coat, it can last quite a few days. I am a mum, so I do housework every single day so it only looked perfect for maybe up to 3 days at best.
Make sure your nails are clean without any oil, grease, hand cream included. Clean them with a nail polish remover, then apply a layer of base coat to protect your nails and make sure nail polish adheres well. Apply one coat at a time and make sure you cover the edges as well. I find that 2 coats works great for Chanel polishes and once the second coat has dried down, I apply the Chanel Gel Top Coat. I love the Gel Top Coat because it leaves your this gel-like shine and hardness on the nails.
Overall
A very late review post of this collection which has been sold for a few months now and the new Les Beiges collection is already up. However, I still see the palette and some of the items in this collection is still for sale. I absolutely love the face and eye palette because of how versatile it is and how the shades in the palette has a good wash of colour without being difficult to use. The soft focus pigment with Chanel’s products means that I am able to build up the saturation gradually. I also love the baume essentiel with that lovely sheer red gloss if I am looking for that dewy look instead of using the powdered blush. I also love the watermelon coloured nail polish and I’ve worn it over and over again. The entire collection is simple, but I really enjoyed it.
In this photo below, I am wearing the bottom left blush shade on my cheeks, the top right shade for highlight. On my eyes, I used all four shades, top left darkest shade to the outer edges and a little on the bottom corner. The highlight shade to my inner corners. I alos used the bottom right beige shade as a bit of a contour shade down my nose as well.
