Dermalogica Liquid Peelfoliant

Where I got it

When I saw on IG about this new product from Dermalogica, the name immediately took my interest. I love a liquid exfoliant, but I am also a repeat offender with overuse of acids on my face (more about this later). There has been a steady growth of multi-acid products in the market ever since The Ordinary 30% AHA+ 2% BHA Peeling Solution gained a lot of hype. The OG was potent and it caused a lot of commotion with people misusing and burning their skin. Other brands started to look into the formulation of these products that combine different acids to find the best concoction to achieve great results without sensitivity. This new one here by Dermalogica has just launched in June you could use it every other day, building up to every day for only 3 minutes each time.

This is currently available at Life Pharmacy and Dermalogica.co.nz for $130. I picked this up at Life Pharmacy while they were having 20% off, so I only paid $104 for this. I also got reward points for their Living Rewards system.

Dermalogica Liquid Peelfoliant

How I find it

My skin condition has been quite good at the moment with no signs of skin barrier damage and no areas of dry patches. I have congestion around my jawline and nose area which is very common for me and it’s just something I have most of my life. The congestion around my jawline is the most irritating. This is a rinse-off treatment that you leave on for around 3 minutes. There is a little pro-tip inside the box to indicate you can leave this on for a little longer for a professional peel-like result.

After cleansing my face, I used 1 dropper-full at a time and I use 2 droppers for my entire face and jawline area. Upon applying this thick-ish gel-lotion texture it spreads easily and there was hardly any tingling feeling or burning sensation on my skin. After a good few minutes, the peel lotion dried down a little bit and rinses off quite easily. My skin looks alright, with no redness or irritations at all. My skin didn’t look particularly different, and I am glad that it is quite gentle for gradual improvement instead of instant improvements as that might be a little too harsh for my skin.

I have started using this every other day building up to daily use, even in my morning skincare routine because I always use an SPF50 and avoid getting into the sun during the day. If you are worried, use this at night and remember to use an SPF during the day.

Dermalogica Liquid Peelfoliant

Overall

A similar product also by Dermalogica under the Clear Start collection at a more budget-friendly price is the Breakout Clearing Liquid Peel (10% AHA, 2% BHA) at $59 for 30ml. Works out to be around $120 for the same amount of product as the Peelfoliant, but you don’t need to commit to a large bottle at first go. This one here would provide a lot more BHA if you are more concerned about congestion, clogged pores, and breakouts.

10% AHA and 0.5% BHA, it is not very high concentrations, at least not too high for my skin. I have been able to use up to 30% AHA and at least 2% BHA and my skin will still react very well (once a week, not daily). However, for a product that you can use on a daily basis, I would still be cautious and monitor my skin for any redness and irritations. An almost 60ml bottle seemed quite a lot of product to go through, but 2 droppers of product each time it does run out quite fast. I am sure this will not last anymore than 4-6 weeks if I use this daily or every other day.

$130 for a bottle that would probably only last 4 weeks might sound very pricey, but the formulation of this Peelfoliant is elegant and very clever. You get AHA, BHA, PHA, enzymes, and tranexamic acids in one product, so you can skip multiple steps. If you are in the market for a multi-active treatment product, give this a try and you should be able to do without 2-3 extra products/steps in your skincare routine.
