Where I got it
I have been looking at getting diamond huggies for a while now and I have never worn any huggies before so I’m not sure if they suit me, or suit my usual style. So before I splurge on diamonds, I decided to try the same style I want, in crystals, or cz. Bare jewellery is a small business based in New Zealand, so I decide to support locally. I have been looking at this particular style and decided to wait for a sale. I finally got it on AfterPay Day sale (20% off), from NZD$75 down to $60 and I had to pay $6.95 for shipping.
Since the brand is based in New Zealand (maybe even Auckland?), the shipping was super fast – like next day fast! It was delivered in a bubble packet inside a hard box.
What I got
These are the Bare Jewellery Miska Huggies. Description from the barejewellery.co.nz website “Gold Vermeil, 18k gold plated on 925 sterling silver. Hoop dimenions: 13x13mm.” “Our gold pieces are plater with 1-3 microns of 14/18k yellow gold wiht a sterling silver, brass or stainless steel base. Silver items are made from 925 sterling silver or stainless steel for sensitive skin”.
How I find it
The earrings were packaged in a nice white box with a pull-out drawer type of design. It comes with a little note in regards to how to adjust your hoop earrings which was really thoughtful! It also comes with a little jewellery cleaning cloth with the BaRe logo embossed on it. The earrings are in a thick cotton drawstring bag and attached to a card (see image).
The earrings were smaller than I had expected. I thought they would be a little thicker. But besides the unexpected thickness, the gold and sparkle of the crystals look really good. They feel really sturdy. The post is very secure and there is a clear click when you push it in and undo it. There are 8 crystals in each earring and it hugs my earlobe perfectly. The size of these huggies are great for daily wear, it is understated and would look great for a second piercing for me as well.
Overall
I put these huggies next to my solid yellow gold diamond studs to compare the colour of the gold and the sparkle of the diamonds. The CZ has a really good sparkle, and the yellow-gold plating matches really nicely. I have been wearing this out for shopping, lunch, work, etc. and it is understated and really comfortable. No sensitivity at all, but I always remove my jewellery for showering and sleeping, even with my solid gold pieces. It’s just a habit thing and a comfort thing.
The size of these huggies are so small they can easily be pulled off as real gold and diamonds rather than really large pieces. They are at a reasonable price as well for such a cute little piece that is gold-plated.
