Chloe Zara Haircare

Where I got it

I have recently seen Chloe Zara haircare popping up on my IG a lot – from people using it at a salon, or bringing the hair oil on their travel bags, etc. I got so intrigued because it looked like what the cool girls were using. However, I held off checking out my cart because I wanted to wait for some sort of discount or sale. Just my luck, I received an email from Sunday HomeStore for a 20% discount for all self-care products. So, skincare, body care, haircare. Sunday Homestore is based in Waihi Beach in New Zealand and stocks some pretty cool brands like Raaie, The Facialist, Sans Ceuticals, Chloe Zara, Tronque, etc.

Chloe Zara is a clean haircare brand that is made in New Zealand, and developed by a hairstylist. Chloe Zara hair is proudly silicone-free, paraben-free, and sulfate-free. The shampoo and conditioners were $46 each and the hair oil was $59 for the small 30ml bottle. It also comes in a 100ml bottle for $110.

How I find it

Let’s talk about my hair to start. I have a slightly oily scalp and dry ends. My hair is naturally wavy and frizzy so I try not to have layers in my hair as possible. I also get keratin treatments on a regular basis to get it smooth and straight. I want low-maintenance hair so right now I have just shoulder-length, straight-cut short hair, and when summer comes, I will be putting it up in a ponytail. So my hair is not fine, it can be a little coarse so I try to find something light and volumizing.

First of all, let’s talk about the scent of this range, specifically the hair and body perfume oil. Sandalwood is definitely the main player here with hints of sweetness (pineapple and fig?). I’m not sure what saffron smells like, but if you like sandalwood, this will tick your box. Sandalwood is woody and sophisticated, it definitely makes you feel like you came out of a posh, chic boutique. But it’s a kind of fragrance that I want to be all around me for the entire day.

Anyway, let’s move on to the hair wash and conditioner. I have been using them together for a few times now. The hair wash is low-foaming, therefore don’t expect a lot of lather unless you lather it up with some kind of device. I find that I might need to shampoo twice with this product when my hair is extra oily/greasy. The shampoo does wash off easily though without leaving my hair too drying.

As for the hair condition, a little goes a long way and I was surprised. I wasn’t expecting the conditioner to coat my hair so effortlessly. Some conditioners are so thin and watery that they go on my hair and almost disappear immediately. This conditioner I can feel this on my hair as it sits for 2-3 minutes and it really feels nourishing. Washing off, my hair does feel silky, but not like I haven’t washed off all conditioner kind of silky soft.

With the hair and body perfume oil, it recommends using one drop only which I thought was not enough. I still use an exfoliating scalp spray after I towel-dried my hair, then I will use about 2 drops of the perfume oil onto my palms, spread it out evenly, and then apply from mid-lengths to ends of my hair. My damp hair grabbed onto the oil and immediately felt like it was all gone from my hands. I was tempted to apply more, but I knew that once I blow-dry my hair, the moisture will evaporate and I will have super greasy hair.

2 drops were plenty for my hair to give it some nourishment and shine. Any more than that would make my hair greasy and weighed down. If I were to use it on dry hair, one drop is plenty. I was also glad that the fragrance was not too strong that it would give me a headache or be really obnoxious to people around me. However, if you love the scent, you could always use it on the body as a body oil where you could easily use more than 5-6 drops for the arms/upper body.

Overall

Overall, I am OK with the shampoo and conditioner, I have tried other that I prefer over this, but if you already have rather healthy hair, this might be good for you. It is lightly hydrating and doesn’t weigh the hair down and the hair perfume oil is a nice finishing touch especially if you enjoy the sandalwood fragrance. My hair is currently in a good healthy state, so I would still use it, but if you have really damaged and treated hair, I don’t think this would do much for you.

Personally, I would not repurchase these products mostly because I did not enjoy the sandalwood fragrance. I love a good sensorial experience with my products. I like things to smell good because it makes me want to use it again. If something is mediocre and smells bad, I would refrain from using it. Sometimes the experience of a product can be a deal-breaker. Not saying that this product is bad, but I just didn’t enjoy it a lot and I might either give it to my sister or sell it online for someone else to enjoy it. I will finish the shampoo and conditioner though because the fragrance is a lot milder in those formulations.

Have you tried Chloe Zara haircare? What did you think of it?
