Where I got it
I was just browsing on the Instagram Explore page and saw this beautiful Asian lady with amazingly glassy, glossy skin. It turns out she has a sheet mask over her face and she was removing it. I clicked into the video and the video started at the beginning. She was applying this white hydrogel mask over her face (her face was already looking amazing and dewy), and then she proceeded to leave this on for 2-3 hours (everything was in Korean). Once the time was up, the hydrogel mask sheet turned transparent (dried up) and while she was removing the mask, it revealed this glossy, plump, and hydrated skin underneath. It looked crazy and she applied this mist over the skin afterward and then pressed tissue paper over her glass skin as evidence that her skin was not sticky or wet. I mean WOW, what kind of sorcery is this?!
I dug into the text of the post and any comments on this product and it is nowhere to be found! I had to look hard into the video and also into her profile, link, etc. to find this product. The brand is AIDA and it is a Korean skincare brand that is not big at all. It looks like it is developed by this Korean lady as a small brand that only has a handful of products and HER skin is unreal. So I hunted this product down and found them on Amazon. It was USD$32 for a pack of 4 at that time.

How I find it
When I use sheet masks, I usually leave them on for 20 minutes maximum. For most of my life, I knew not to leave sheet masks for too long, especially not until it dries up. But most of the sheet masks nowadays are so drenched in serum/liquid, that they hardly dry up. These new hydrogel sheet masks require you to leave them on for over an hour or until it dries out. It is such an interesting concept! This one here by MD AIDA is a brightening mask with Glutathione. Let’s see how it turns out for me.
Lately, my skin has been quite stable with no massive breakouts and cystic acne. I believe it was a combination of a good skin-barrier-strengthening skincare routine, hormonal balance, and good sugar balance (I had a hysterectomy done a few months ago and started taking this blood-sugar balancing supplement which I intend to share more in the coming months). I cannot say my skin is smooth and free of wrinkles, I still have all the scarring after years of acne. I still have fine lines and discoloration on my skin. I do not expect a sheet mask alone will resolve all my issues. So here we go.
After cleansing and toning I rip open a mask packet. The hydrogel mask is separated into 2 pieces – one for the lower half of the face, and one for the upper half of the face. There are also two smaller pieces from the eye-opening that you can use either on your eyelids or on the sides of your nose. After placing the two smaller pieces, I would recommend placing the lower part first and then the upper part. This way, the upper part would overlap the lower part to keep it from falling.
I would say hydrogel masks can be very delicate to manoeuvre so if you have long nails, please be careful. The gel mask is not dripping wet, but it is slippery. It comes with plastic backing sheets on either side of the gel masks and in my opinion, the hydrogel mask was a little stiff. It adheres to the skin nicely, but it does slide downwards, especially the bottom part. Once the mask is on, I would lie down to prevent it from sliding down. After a good 10 minutes, the mask was adhering well.
I went to sleep and set an alarm 3 hours later to remove the mask. I’m not used to sleeping with a mask on so I twist and turn a little bit before falling asleep. When my alarm went off, the mask had dried up and turned translucent! The mask still adhered to my skin quite well and it wasn’t hard to start peeling from the side. The mask did not pull my skin and whilst my skin did not feel dry, it certainly was not glossy and wet like the videos I’ve seen.
Once removed, my skin feels good and I followed up with the MD AIDA Ampoule pad all over my face. I did achieve that dewy, glossy skin look with the pad and I went to bed without applying anything else.
Overall
It has been a while since I’m wowed by a sheet mask. There was only one sheet mask that I really love last year and it was the Vela Days B5 mask. I have used hydrogel masks before, but never left it on over 30 mins, let alone 3 hours or overnight. Even though my personal results were not the same as the viral videos, I am equally impressed because my skin looked glowy and soft. I’m confident to say all skin types would benefit from this mask. The glass skin effect and hydration is boosted with ampoule pad. I would definitely repurchase this!
I also noticed that there are 2 other brands that are viral – Biodance and MediAnswer, both are k-beauty brands. I’m suspecting other brands would start coming out with their version of overnight sheet masks in the near future. Have you checked out the IG reel of me testing out this mask?
