Where I got it
Just one day before 1st March, I received a text from Julia, my Chanel beauty SA, that they will launch the new Spring 2024 collection. The launch includes the Rouge Allure Velvet Nuit Blanche as well, which are the 8 new shades in the Rouge Allure Velvet formula in the stunning black and white case. Everything in the 2024 collection and the Nuit Blanche collection are new and limited edition.
I did not pick up the eye shadow quads because, even though the blue quad (Rivage) was so hyped up and so special, I knew it would be something I would not wear at all. There is nothing worse I can put on my eyes than blue eyeshadow and this is an almost electric blue, with a hint of metallic to it. Hard pass for me. As for the coral shade quad (Coral Treasure), I already have a bunch of palettes with this colorway and the design is nothing special, so I decided to pass on this as well. I also passed on the lip products, while they are gorgeous shades, I already own something similar.
This time, Chanel counters at my local Farmers (also the one in Albany) has already launched the collection! And they have the entire collection. They do only have limited shades for the Nuit Blanche collection (also mismatched testers available, I will talk more on this down below). I was able to swatch everything at my local Farmers. Since the 1st March was on a Friday, the delivery only got to me on Tuesday.
Chanel unboxing reel
The Chanel Spring 2024 collection was launched on 1st March in New Zealand. Chanel.com: “The first makeup collection imagined by COMETES COLLECTIVE member Valentina Li is inspired by the ocean, a realm close to Gabrielle Chanel’s heart. It includes satiny shimmer and subtle shades of azure blue and coral. An invitation to create vibrant looks illuminated by bright accents.”
The entire collection includes:
- Illuminating Powder in LUMIÈRE DE L’OCÉAN
- Powder Blush Duo in ROSES COQUILLAGE
- Les 4 Ombres in RIVAGE and CORAL TREASURE
- Rouge Coco Baume in 932 – ANEMONE, 934 – CORALLINE
- Rouge Coco Laque in 92 – SEA SHELL, 93 – SEA STAR
- Le Vernis in 177 – SUN DROP, 179 – LAGUNE
- Stylo Yeux Waterproof in 82 – BLEU ABYSSE
- Baume Essentiel in MERMAID GLOW
Here are the items I purchased…
Illuminating Powder (Lumiere de L’Ocean). “Inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s love of the ocean, the SPRING 2024 Collection plays around with the many hues of water, for a glowing, iridescent makeup look accented by touches of azure blue. LUMIÈRE DE L’OCÉAN EXCLUSIVE CREATION is a shimmering illuminating powder that gives the face an iridescent glow. Embossed with the iconic double C, reminiscent of the meeting of ripples created by skipping stones across the water, the sheer, subtly pearlescent powder has a bluish shimmer, like that of the ocean glistening in the sun. The high points of the face are enhanced with iridescent radiance, for a luminous-looking complexion that glows with beauty. Le Venis (179 Lagune). Protective and long-lasting, LE VERNIS by CHANEL is designed to make vibrant colours dazzle, for beautiful nails. A new formula—featuring a higher concentration of pigment and enriched with camellia eco-ceramides, a naturally derived ingredient developed for CHANEL—provides an ultra-shiny, perfectly even lacquered finish with every fine, long-wearing coat.
Baume Essentiel (Mermaid Glow). A moisturising highlighting balm to dab onto the face for discreet radiance effect. Its texture melts onto the skin and reflects the light. BAUME ESSENTIEL creates a glimmering effect that sculpts the face, enhancing both sophisticated makeup and the most natural looks. With its on-the-go format and elegant, understated design, it is easy to use on the face, lips and eyes all day long.
How I find it
Whilst I did not pick up any blue makeup, I did pick up the beautiful frosty highlighter with a blue reflect. The illuminator is gorgeous in the pad, and gorgeous on the skin. My iphone camera had a hard time picking up any of the blue shimmers when it is in focus. It is only when it is out of focus, my camera could pick up the silver and blue reflects. I was quite surprised that Chanel has launched such a wintery-frost illuminator in the Spring collection, but it really does fit the Ocean theme of the collection. The CC embossing on the powder looks like ripples in the water caused by water droplets, it’s simply stunning.
A blue-toned illuminator is not eveyrone’s cup of tea because it is not “natural-looking”. In fact it can look blinding if you use a little too much. It may also be hard to match with the rest of your makeup. However, I love to wear this when I’m wearing very minimal eye makeup, or no eye makeup at all. Otherwise, I would use something neutral on my eyes and just let my cheekbones pop with this highlighter.
Ahh… I really cannot escape the temptations of the Baume Essentiel. Initially I decided to skip this because I couldn’t find many swatch images online and it looked quite ordinary. When I was in store to test it, I noticed the gold and pink shimmers in the stick with that glossy base, I knew I had to get it. It really does give mermaid vibes. The shimmers are subtle on the skin, but the dewiness of the balm gives you that glass-skin look. I like to rub my fingertips on the stick and then tap/glide on my skin instead of swiping the stick directly on my skin.
Lastly, the metallic blue nail polish – 179 Lagune. Blue isn’t really my go-to pop of colour for my outfits but it can be something that I would wear if I am matching an outfit. The updated nail polish formula requires 2 even coats to achieve a good coverage without streaks. A top coat to seal everything in and you are done.
Overall
As a Chanel collector/fanatic, I am so happy that I bought the illuminating powder and the baume essentiel. However, if you are not a fan of Chanel, I would say these products are nothing out of this world, nor are the texture and formulation. It’s not like you cannot find something similar out there for a fraction of the price. So it’s up to you if you think it’s worth the money or not.
In summary, besides the blue eyeshadow I really like the other colours in the collection. It leans towards coral shades and sandy shades for the lips with a special bright red for a pop of colour. The blue highlighter is probably the most blue that you would see on my face. As for the nail polish, I kind of regretted because it will be a shade that I wear less often compared to my neutrals, nudes and pinks.
