Where I got it
Earlier this month I visited my local Chanel boutique and asked about the N°5 L’Eau in the limited edition clear glass bottle. I was told that they would come in next week (2nd week of June) so I asked my SA to let me know when it arrives. My SA called me on 14th June to let me know that they have received very limited stock and she has reserved me the last one and wanted to know if I wanted it. When I heard the price of this perfume (NZD $267), I was a little hesitant but I also knew that I really love the limited edition bottle and I also really enjoyed the N°5 L’Eau scent. I was just waiting for the best time to get a bottle. Compared to the classic bottle, $232 for 50ml, I was glad that I did not have to pay more than $50 for the limited edition bottle! *This is only a limited edition bottle, but the N°5 L’Eau inside smells exactly the same as the one in the classic bottle.*
Anyway, I know that these limited edition bottles are really popular and this one is something special. I love this so so much. I have seen online, there is a little Chanel egg-shaped bag that comes wiht the perfume as a set (possibly PR?), but unfortunately I was not offered that, but my SA did give me a cute little key chain with a white CC ribbon and a tiny little metal egg of the L’eau perfume. I have also asked my SA if they will get more stock of this perfume, to which she said they are not going to get anymore. So that was it.
What I got
This is the NEW LIMITED EDITION Chanel N°5 L’Eau (50ml). Nº5 L’EAU, a scent with a vibrant woody and citrus signature, is the freshest and most contemporary version of N°5, flowing with carefree ease inside a coveted vessel.
Composition – A vibrant and fresh abstract floral fragrance. A scent that radiates citrus and aldehydes. A whirlwind of flowers, carried away by vetiver, cedar, and soft musk notes. The unstoppable momentum of N°5 infused into a fresh, exclusive release. Less abstract than its forebears, the composition of N°5 L’EAU radiates citrus. Top notes of lemon, mandarin and orange are propelled skyward by aldehydes, followed by a profusion of flowers. Rose melds with airy jasmine and a new fraction of ylang-ylang, more modern than ever. Behind this floral whirlwind, vetiver and cedar impart a dynamism that is novel to N°5, softened by notes of musk. Never has N°5 been so fresh.
Design – For the very first time, N°5 L’EAU leaves the original bottle behind in a new interpretation of the most iconic drop of perfume in history: a drop of CHANEL N°5. Experience the unexpected: a minimalistic glass bottle, like a drop of perfume, whose transparent nature conveys purity. It was inspired by the bold freedom with which CHANEL. How I find it
The perfume comes in a white box with black edges and a silver-embossed oval to the shape of the bottle. It’s absolutely beautiful. The bottle itself looks like the iconic egg-shaped hand cream, but in an all-clear glass bottle. The pump mechanism is a silver metal material which adds to how clean and how sleek the bottle is. Of course this will not stand on its bottom so you will need to either lay it down flat, or prop it up with something. I would have expected to have a little velvet pouch from Chanel.
The cap of the bottle was a little difficult to pull open if you don’t have good grip, but once opened, the egg is the perfect shape and size to spray. The entire bottle is extremely well made and the text printed on the bottle is done beautifully. Black text on the front and the minor details at the back is white. There is also a batch number etched onto the back of the bottle.
The N°5 L’Eau is a fresher and citrus-y version of the original N°5. Whilst the original is quite mature and classic, it is not what I look for in a perfume. I prefer white florals, sweet florals or something fresh and citrus-y. The N°5 L’Eau sure has that musky note which reminds you of the original N°5. I would say this is a great perfume for spring and summer, and equally nice for autumn and winter.
I would say this fragrance would generally be acceptable to most people. It is not too punchy or too sweet or too woody. It is soft and mellow depending on how heavy-handed you are. It is long-lasting on the skin and on clothing and as it fades, the citrus notes and floral notes fades, leaving more musky notes.
Overall
I am so glad that I did not let this one pass me by because this is definitely a one-of-a-kind, and a first from Chanel. Chanel has never done a perfume bottle of this shape and it is so well made. I personally enjoy N5 L’Eau because it is light and fresh. Not the citrus type of freshness, but a more sophisticated type of fresh. Now I need to find a way to display this beautiful piece of art safely and without scratching it.
