Where I got it
The egg-shaped cushion foundation is nothing new on the internet, it has been viral on TikTok as a high coverage cushion foundation that looks seamless on the skin and is super lightweight and natural-looking. I am usually not big on cushion foundations for some reason, I prefer liquid foundation. However, while I was shopping on StyleKorean and they were on sale, I decided to pick up a full version and a mini version just to try.
I got these from StyleKorean for USD $12 and $20. Turns out to be around NZD $32 and $20. StyleKorean only stocks 3 shades and 23N Sand being the deepest available.
What I got
I picked up the TIR TIR My Glow Cream Cushion (SPF30) (18g) and a mini version of the Mask Fit Red Cushion (SPF40)(4.5g). Usually these cushion foundations comes with a refill, but these did not and for approx. NZD $32, it turns out this cushion is around $53 for 30g of product. That’s not expensive, but also not cheap. Anyway, let’s get to the cushions.

How I find it
Let’s talk about the TikTok-viral Mask Fit Red Cushion Foundation SPF40+. This little guy here I’ve got is the mini version and I have very high expectations from all that hype online. It is said to give full coverage with a semi-matte finish. I usually use cushion foundations for their sheer coverage and glowy finish, so I guess I wasn’t ready for this.
First try of this foundation I applied way too much. It looks like I’ve got a mask on and I looked hideous. I wiped it all off and tried again. I pressed the applicator into the cushion once and then wiped it on my face. Then I blended it out by patting. The foundation went a long day and I only went back to the compact once to add coverage to my cheeks. Then all I had to do is blend everything in! Immediately after application my skin looked great and the finish is semi-matte. I think most k-beauty cushions would not give you a solid-matte finish, so even though this is on the matte side of the spectrum, it is still a natural matte.
I purposely did not use any primers underneath to see how it holds up, but I can say that is did wear exceptionally well. I have used this during the week and the weekend. On days I go to work I put on makeup at around 7am and I remove it at around 8pm at night. I would be in the office for work for 4 hours, then out and about running errands, picking up the kids and then it would be housework until the kids go to bed. At the end of the day I still see foundation on my skin, but it did wear off around my chin area where I would touch unconsciously. It would’ve been an easy touch up anyway, but my skin did not feel dry or oily, nor did the foundation get into pores and fine lines, so it wore off gradually, not in patches.
Next, the My Glow Cream Cushion Foundation SPF30+. This is a dewy finish cushion foundation with medium coverage. I only press down into the cushion once and apply to the entire face and use another press for specific areas to acheive better coverage only where I need it. I would say I prefer this for daily wear because I like a sheer to medium coverage with a more natural, dewy finish compared to a higher coverage and matte foundation. Even though Mask Fit Red is not heavy or cakey, you can see that you are wearing foundation.
One thing I noticed is that the same shade between Mask Fit Red and My Glow Cream looks quite different – see below. My Glow is cooler and lighter than Mask Fit Red. On the back of my hand Mask Fit Red looks like a better fit, but my hand is a little darker than my face so My Glow Cream actually matches my face a lot better.
Overall
Both of the TIR TIR cushion foundations I’ve tried are pretty good. The Red compact is definitely the best coverage with natural finish. It is not an undetectable foundation, but it looks very natural and not drying on the skin. The shade range has improved I have heard, so there are more deeper shade options. The White compact however is my favourite out of the 2. The white compact gives a more sheer to medium coverage and a more dewy coverage. I actually prefer this type of skin finish more if the weather isn’t too hot and humid.
The shape of the compact actually makes a lot of sense and the mini compact is so good for touch-up on the go. However, the one thing that I don’t like about cushion foundation is that I find it hard to control how much product I get from the cushion everytime I press the applicator in. I prefer to squeeze out product on the back of my hand and be able to see exactly how much I am using. I can also gauge how much product I have left. Cushion foundations tends to dry up faster than I can use them up as well. Do you have any tips? Have you tried the TIR TIR cushion foundations and how did you find it?
