Where I got it

I saw someone use these online and called it ice slushy and thought it was really interesting and cooling for the summer months now in New Zealand. So I ordered the only two versions from StyleKorean. They were on special at USD$12.50 for a box of 20 treatments, now they are USD$20. For 20 treatments, $20 is quite affordable.

This is the Lindsay Smoothie Mask in Blue Spirulina Ice Smoothie and Vitamin B12 Smoothie (20 pcs). Lindsay is a known brand that does modeling masks, and they also do sheet masks. They usually come in a plastic container for you to mix powder with water. They also come with a spatula for mixing and application.

How I find it

The mask pack comes in a plastic tray with a lid. There are 20 packets of powder and a plastic spatula. There is an indication of how much water to add into the tray and once I have cleansed my face and applied some serum on my skin, I add water and powder into the tray and the chemical reaction is immediate. The powder absorbs the water and turns into this very interesting slushy-looking mixture. The gel-like mixture feels almost fluffy and it is not wet at all. All the water has been absorbed, but I do mix it up a little bit more to ensure the consistency is the same.

Powder

Mixed with water

Once it is mixed up, I use the entire contents in one application. I start with my cheeks, and then my forehead, and everywhere else. At first, the mixture doesn’t seem to like sticking to my face, but the key is to layer it gradually. You can go over the areas you have applied to add more layers until you use up the mixture. I even left some just for playing around with. The mixture looks matte, but with a hint of sparkle, like it is icy cold. I think my kids would like to play with it like as science experiment.

With all the fun things aside, the mask is really soothing and cooling (not too intense). I was able to leave this on for over 20 minutes without the mask drying up, or crumbling or falling apart. You can lightly touch it and get some on your fingertips, so it can transfer and look almost invisible. Once I am ready to remove it, I use the same spatula to gently scrape off the mask and wipe it on a piece of tissue paper. Then I rinse the remaining off with water. I am sure you can just rinse it off without clogging the sink, but I would prefer less of this stuff in the pipes as possible just in case.

My skin feels nice and hydrated, calm and soothed. It almost looks a little brighter, feels hydrated and soothed. The hydration is not powerful, so I do continue with the rest of my skincare routine (serum and moisturiser).

The pink one feels quite the same, but the colour is supposed to turn into this light pink colour, but the colour particles do need to be mixed in, otherwise it just looks clear. In my opinion, I did not notice any difference between the blue and pink except for the colour, so that’s all I have to say.

Overall

So, what do I think of this mask… of course it is more of a gimmick than actual skincare benefits. I think I would prefer a modeling mask over this one because a modeling mask does all the cooling, soothing, hydrating, and fun. But without the potential messiness during application. It is very good value for money for a pack of 20, and it is quite fun to see it instant transform into another substance, I think the modeling mask does a better job with cooling down the skin and keeping everything locked in.

I will definitely use up the masks, maybe I will use it more down my neck or on the back of my hand. Or even let my kids play with it as a science experiment (my kids are 8 and 10, and they will be supervised of course).
